I just changed to the Kidd green spring and rod so I can shoot subsonic in my ruger. It has a green mountain fluted barrel. I put subsonic in it and tried to shoot it will not close enough to fire or it will not pull the hulls out of the barrel? Ideals please

I've had the medium springs in two different guns for going on ten years and have never changed them. I just got some Aquila subsonic to try for an offhand match and shot it off the bench today for a zero at 50 yards. Shot 20 rounds total and never had a problem.

Your spring is to light, put the medium in and your problem will go away.

the Cci subsonic hp do not want to go in the barrel all the way with out pushing the handle a little then it will not pull the hull. It Has a volguartsen extractor in the gun. And works fine on regular lr ammo. I will put the kidd regular spring in it today and try. aguila Was a little better .
thanks guy’s

99.9% of the Standard Velocity rounds I've shot have been subsonic out of a rifle length (16-20) barrel.
Ammo labeled Subsonic is usually either the same as Standard Velocity or just a tad weaker to ensure none of the faster rounds in the box break the sound barrier in some sort of rare atmospheric condition.
When shooting various flavors of Standard Velocity through a muffler, it's a very, very rare occasion I hear one crack.
All of these cycle the gun just fine.

The only exceptions when it comes to cycling are variants labeled 'quiet'. These are exceptionally weak, and are designed to be quiet without the use of a muffler.
These are best used in bolt guns, and will generally have to be hand cycled in a semi-auto unless it's specifically set up for them... and then it won't be wise to shoot anything else out of the gun, as it will be slamming the bolt back into the buffer really hard, and could cause damage to the buffer and/or receiver.

when you say it doesnt eject its not clear if your talking live or fired rounds. if it wont eject fired rounds the smaller mass of the firefly bolt allows it to cycle when a standard bolt wont. if it wont eject live rounds its the nature of having a tighter chamber. i have found a extra power extractor spring keeps the extractor from slipping off.

the cci sub hollow points don’t want to eject live or fired round

Is it barrel land engraving hard on the bullet preventing the bullet from fully seating? If so, your spring is too light. Some subsonic projectiles are longer and heavier so they might be harder to engrave and fully seat in the chamber.

Drop a round in by hand, if it seats really hard or doesn’t fully chamber it could be the spring not having enough bolt velocity to seat it causing out of battery issues. Ejectors struggle to eject live rounds in match barrels as well.

I pushed Some shells in with my thumb when the brass starts in the barrel it gets hard to push. Then just before the shell is seated all the way it gets hard to push again. It looks like the inside of the barrel is out of round. Gun had been shooting good with high velocity ammo.

The speed of sound fluctuates greatly with temperature. For every 10 degree drop in temperature, the speed of sound decreases by 11 ft/sec. That's not opinion , that's a scientific fact. Anyone who's shot SV in colder temps can vouch for hearing a crack from SV ammo.

999 out of a thousand SV rounds staying subsonic?? Not unless CCI is capable of producing SV ammo with a standard deviation of 5 fps. Not Bloody Likely.......unless one is shooting in the desert in 100 degrees all of the time.

Sounds like your Green Mountain barrel has a nice tight match chamber. If the sub sonics you are trying to shoot are CCI they tend to have bullets on the large side of spec so they will fit the chamber tighter. I have a Shaw barrel with the Bentz chamber and it is fussier than my Ruger chambered barrel. Disclaimer etched on that barrel states that a live round might not be extracted.

You (or someone else) may be able to use some small, round files to true it up. That, or someone with a .22lr reamer can clean it up.

I've posted this here before, and it's been made a sticky...
But, this is how to remove and install a barrel without any beating or banging, and do it without hurting anything at all, leaving any marks ,and getting the new barrel clocked perfectly.
If anyone has any questions, it's my video and I can answer any questions.
