stovepiping and light primer strikes

first post here so hello from southwest Saskatchewan.
i just bought myself a 597 package model with 500 rounds through it the first day i took it out i had lots of stovepipes with my 30rd mag and none with the 10 rd. second day after a good clean and free floating the barrel i took it out again no stovepipes but i had a heck of a time with light primer strikes i thought it was just the Winchester wildcat ammo until i got through the few of those i had in the mag and it still had not fired yet even with the American eagle that worked yesterday. along with the misfires it often would not extract the unfired round until i worked the bolt a few times.
i'm assuming that i should get the vq extractor and hammer while I'm at it.
what lube is to be used on the rails and what ammo do you suggest.
thanks

Welcome jdawg~
I'm thinking one of your springs might have gotten shoved too far forward when you pushed the guide rod in. Spring drag will then slow down the cycling causing light strikes. To check take out the trigger group and pull each spring back separately with your fingernail as far as you can making sure the bolt end of the spring isn't caught.
A hammer and extractor should help things along.
Most dry lubes are ok for the guide rods.
Avoid Rem's cheap ammo. Winchester usually goes bang for me although I prefer Minimags but I have more money than brains.

thanks al lets hope that works
for ammo choices here all there is is the winchester wildcat, federal, rem thunderbolts and western.
ill pick up some minimags this weekend to give it a good break in but then its back to cheap stuff and since i just finished my engineering degree i officially have more brains than money.

A very large atta boy jdawg on procurement of parchment. :t:t I was good at terminating people via USMC but it wasn't a good choice for civilian work in my small home town. :p Fortunately the market was very good the last quarter.
Fed bulk usually goes off but many batches have frequent flyers. Save your funds for job bribery.
