Got a 457 American about a month ago and finally found the scope I wanted here in the classifieds. It’s a 3-9x33 EFR mounted in Burris rimfire rings straight to the receiver. I like how it looks. Feels more like a big game rifle.
haven’t messed with the trigger or done anything yet , but got it zeroed at 50 yards with cci mini mags. I’ve never had much luck with that ammo on paper but they smack a squirrel in the head pretty hard.
after I get 100 rounds or so through it I’ll clean it good and try and get the trigger down some and see what kind ammo it likes.
im liking the feel of it so far though.

Very nice looking squirrel rifle. For squirrels I have more glass, bad olde eyes.

"cci mini mags. I’ve never had much luck with that ammo on paper", same story here. Mine like Tac-22 sun sonics, less power ut makes me look like a great shot.

thanks for sharing the pic...we will need a range report also!

If I hadn’t found the EFR I was gonna try the Tracy 4-12 ao.

I’m sure I’ll find some ammo that shoots well. I only shot a couple 5 shot groups getting a zero with the MM and they would be ok to hunt with out to 50-60 yards but they ain’t gonna win any target matches

Really nice setup. Like another poster on here, mine loves RWS Subsonics. In my opinion the RWS Subs are the best Squirrel round going.
I use a lot of Leupold scopes on my Squirrel rifles and all in the 6X flavor, but on the 457 American I went with an Athlon 2-12X42 and Leupold rimfire rings.
When you get yours all setup the way you want it, it will make you very happy.

Nice looking set -up sir! Looks like it should ballance well. The American is really a nice rifle. Enjoy it!
As for the trigger, you should be able to get it down to a good crisp hunting weight 9 1.5-2#) by following the instructions found in this forum. Just takes 10 min of fiddling with the 3 adjustments.
As for hunting ammo, I'd suggest you experiment to see what teh rifle likes. For hunting, you migth try some of the high speed Match fodder designed for semi autos. SK and Eley both make some. Even bulk packed Federal Auto Match seems to shoot better (and more reliably) than anything CCI in my rifles.

Now you've went and done it. I have a 453. A 457 American in 22 mag. A 457 Chassis. But I DON'T have a 457 American in 22 lr. I work a few hours a week at a CZ dealer. AND I can buy at cost. I might have to remedy this when I go to work this afternoon.

Feels more like a big game rifle.
This resonates with my experience years ago with CZ. I was looking to buy my first 17HMR, but most of the offerings looked and felt like toy guns, including the CZ at the time. I bought a Ruger 77/17 that felt like a big game rifle. Since then, I've owned seven 17HMRs. My first CZ is a 457 Varmint .22. It is balanced, hefty, attractive, and has a good magazine and appropriate safety. Most importantly, it rivals my most accurate .22s.
And congrats to our OP on a fine set-up. Have fun!
