Hi all,
Just recently picked up a couple of Springfield (Stevens) 87A rimfire rifles.
Just learning about them.
They seem to be an interesting firearm.
These 2 seem to be in decent condition.
My question is regarding the subtle differences i have noticed about them.
They both have the relisted patent number and are both made in the Chicopee Falls plant.
I assume this places their dom somewhere between 1945 and 1949 inclusive.
I observed the front sights are of a different configuration, the safety levers are different, the serrations on the bolt knob are different (one is finer) and the knurlling on the receiver plugs are different (one is finer).
Are these differences based on just whatever parts were picked from the bin or are they intentional design changes and have specific dates as to when they were introduced?
Just curious,
Thanks
