Some Kind of Scam?

I can’t help but feel that this is some kind of scam, but I can‘t figure how it works. I got a call on my cell the other day from some woman asking if I placed an order from some golf store in Ohio, which I didn’t. She told me the last 4 digits on the CC, which did not match any of my cards. She said it seemed suspicious, so she said she was going to cancel the transaction. No problem. A few minutes ago UPS dropped off a brand new Calloway Apex golf club. The packing list has my name and address as the ”ship to”, but the “bill to” has the Calloway address. How am I going to get screwed by this? And why couldn’t it have been a case of ammo or something I could use? I am not a golfer.

Under the UCC. Unsolicited goods sent to a consumer do not have to be paid for or returned.
Youregonna get a call that since you got it , you gotta pay for it. Hang up and block the number.
...and never say 'yes' when you speak to them over the phone. They'll ask if you received the clubs, and if you say 'yes' at any time, they'll manipulate the call later like:

Scammers: 'Sir, did you order those golf clubs from us?'

You: 'Yes'

...and then they've got you, straight to Collections, ruin your credit rating if you don't pay up. Even when the scammers call and ask 'Is this (you)?' don't say yes.

Don't talk to them if they call back, just hang up.

Put a security freeze on your credit lookup, with the 3 companies.

I just don’t answer my phone if I don’t know the number. Even if it says it’s a place of business that I know. I let it go to voicemail and then look them up online and call that number if I need to.

It’s always good to have voicemails and voicemails-to-text anyway, scam or not. And NEVER click links in unknown texts.

Yeah, well ... when I got a scam call saying I owed a federal tax and trying to help me pay it off. I figured it was a scam right off. Later I contacted the AG, the phone company and a local FBI hotline. I got the same answer from everyone I talked to ... hang up. None of them seemed to really care at all.

On the "yes" thing... often if they have your name they will ask ..."Is this Joe Smith" and you answer "yes" then they have you ... the only answer they wanted. We've learned to answer with ... "who's calling?" or "what's this about?" but never say "yes".

Actually, I used to play golf, for a few years. I really sucked and never got any better. Finally my wife bought me lessons from a local club pro. The instructor set up a video camera to capture my swing. That was the first time I saw how bad my swing is. Haven't played since. I have no desire to embarrass myself like that again.

Maybe it's a good thing nobody has videotaped me shooting....
