Mounting a sling on Model 60

Howdy Jake, I purchased a kit from my local Walmart that had two screw style sling studs and sling swivels. I measured down about 2.5" from the front of the stock, and up from the recoil plate, and drilled holes. I used a 3/8" bradpoint bit to countersink just deep enough for the stud base. Then I used a 3/16" bit and drilled about an 1/8" deep for the shoulder on the stud, and the finished drilling with an 1/8' bit. Then I used a dremel with a cutoff wheel and cut one stud down to about 1/2", I used the other stud to start the front hole and then replaced it with the shortened one. I used a 1/8" punch to screw them in tight. I did'nt use the nylon washers that came in the kit so I could get more threads on the front stud. Took about 10 minutes and came out great. Brownells also sells a kit that has a two piece clamp that goes on the magazine tube. You have to drill the stock for the lower stud. Good luck. BruceG:AR15firin

How 'bout pictures of your work? I'd like to see how that sling came out! :t
I couldn't find a kit with two wood screw studs locally, and ordering online was stupid b/c of shipping cost. I ended up going to the local gunshop and bought two "wood screw" studs for less than a buck...

I probably didn't do it "right" but I marked my stock with blue painters tape and drilled a pilot hole for the "wood" screw sling stud, countersunk ever so slightly so it would fit flush with the stock.

Screwed it into the stock and then trimmed the end of the screw so it wouldn't interfere with the feed tube (also with a dremel). It worked fine for awhile but made me nervous about it pulling out since there are only a few threads holding the front stud in, so I pulled it out and put some gorilla glue on the threads, then put it back in... it's never coming out :bthumb:

here you can see my front sling stud...

and here it is on my Boyds...

I did on my 60W a few years ago. I went to Loews picked up the "T-nut" Then trimmed it down with a dremmel.(cut the wings off)

I drilled the hole in the front stock to know where to rout out the inside. If I were to do it over again, I would put it pretty close to the fore-end so it hangs on your shoulder better.

Then I used a dremmel to rout out the inside of the stock so the mag tube would not hit it

Turned out well except I wished I had done it further towards the end of the stock
