Single Shot 17HMR????

Is it just me or are there very few offerings in a single shot 17HMR? I am glad to see that savage is doing the semi auto 17, and there are a lot of single shot 22s as well.

Is this not something that works very well?

I would guess it works just fine however the HMR was invented more as a hunting round and as such would behoove faster follow-up shots. Another JMO guess.

Al probably hit the nail more or less on the head, but single shot HMRs do indeed work fine; the H&R Sportster I had, with it's 22" bull barrel (same as on the Marlin 917, made by Green Mountain IIRC) was extremely accurate, and with some practice, follow ups weren't really any slower than a bolt gun.

Kind Regards,

I had an H&R back when they first came out.. Really liked it, but mis fired quite often, drove me nuts, went back and exchanged for another one, same darn thing, so I took that back and spent the extra and got me a Marlin 917 VS...

The H&R's were very accurate, just annoying, but the Marlin has been beyond awesome.

The critters that my 917 had been used for rarely needs a follow up shot. I had zeroed it a 100 and it was good to go.

I agree with you on the Marlin, the men that worked under me at a State University gave me a Marlins heavy barrel when I retired in 2006. It is my favorite rimfire. I have had several .17 hmr but always go back to my Marlin.

Just doesn't satisfy the spray and pray crowd. The 17 HMR in the H&R Sportster is a highly accurate hunting rifle. I'll admit I have one I RARELY shoot only because I am in love with my CZ452 in 22lr which is almost as accurate. I will say the little 17gr pill will turn a gopher inside out for quite some distance.

All winchester low walls are falling block,,if i understand your question correctly. There is no such thing as a bolt action low wall.

I have a 22lr low wall. I like them very much! I am partial to engraving on them as i think they look too plain without it. Some of my friends hate my engraved ones,,,,,

The thing some people dont like on a low wall is after it is scoped, some big fingers have trouble getting the case out after it has been shot. I have big fingers and think this is a made up rumour. I have no problems. You may find one with ejector that solves that "problem".

I enjoy the japan made low wall.

I have had a couple 17 HMR H&R SS rifles and ALL have been marvelously accurate!!

I have one HMR and one M2 17 now and like them allot.

H&R is now gone, but there may still be these rifles in the pipe line or sitting on dealer shelves. They are a very good inexpensive option.

Picked one up for $50 about two years ago, scoped it and it would go just slightly more than MOA at 100 yards, a farmer friend wanted it $100 worth and I sold it, wish I'd kept it now and converted it to .17wsm. :(
