MY SINCERE THANKS TO Kidd Innovative Design, our Ultimate of the Month Sponsor, and to Green Mountain Rifle Barrels, JWH Custom Bolts, Gunsmither Tools and Tuffer Buffer for their generous sponsorship of the September 2013 contest!!!!

2013 Ultimate 10/22 Contest Rules:

Ultimate Build Characteristics- These are the areas to be considered when judging rifles and casting your votes:

Originality: Is there anything unique/different about the build?

Material Quality: Simple- what components and materials- Fit & Finish.

Execution: How well does it function? Is it thrown together, or did the builder pay attention to detail, such as paint/polish/customization/ergonomic adaptation

Accuracy: we need a standard. I propose MOA to 50 for scoped rigs as a minimum, and either 2 or 3 MOA to 25 or 50 for iron sight rigs as a minimum.

Artistic Impression: that overall X factor that makes a rifle cool-

Personally, I want this contest to be INCLUSIVE, not EXCLUSIVE.

That means builds that are exceptional, for whatever reason, have a shot.

BR, Tactical, Offhand Custom, Superstock, OEM- ANY 10-22 Variant should be considered.

It might be incredibly beautiful, with no submitted targets.

It might be a hand built, full custom, that looks better than it shoots.

It might be comprised of all aftermarket parts, but was assembled, tuned, bedded maybe refinished and has the targets to prove the work behind it.

It might be a Tactical, well thought out with all the right parts and purpose built.

It might be a plain Jane 10-22 that shoots incredible bug holes and is in pristine condition.

It might be one of the early serial numbers- unfired, NIB, representing our origins.

Leave it to the members to vote and decide.

Tell us about our rifle. Everything you can- and post pictures. I cannot stress this enough, good quality pictures will likely make or break some entries in this contest.
You CAN post a link to another thread, if appropriate, or to your own or another members rifle in one of the picture threads.

PLEASE POST A BIO, BUILD SPECS, TARGETS AND PHOTOS IN THE SUBMISSION THREAD! You may also wish to post a link to the original build thread, if applicable.

IF MEMBERS DON'T SEE IT, YOUR RIFLE WILL NOT CAPTURE ATTENTION AND VOTES!

Submissions/nominations will be accepted from 9/1-9/10

There will be a PRELIMINARY VOTE held from 9/10-9-20, to narrow the field to THREE FINALISTS. MEMBERS will be allowed to cast THREE votes in the preliminary poll to vote for the rifles they consider to be the top three.

The final vote will be in blind poll form, held from 9/20-9/30.

RFC MEMBERS who are INTERESTED in having a contest run in another forum, OTHER THAN Ruger 10-22s, please PM or email me and we will look into expanding this into other areas of RFC in the coming months or in 2014.

Respectfully,

DrGunner

I'd like to nominate JCrowley's Tuck stocked beauty for September's UoTM contest...Although the competition is a little shall we say "strong" :yikes:with TBR's masterpiece, if this rifle shoots 1/10th as good as it looks, it still deserves some serious consideration:bthumb: JC do you have a build thread/link for this amazing rifle??

I'd like to nominate this beauty from NY Marksman. You may recognize it from the Rimfire Central banner you see at the top of the screen.

Thanks for your input. The rifle you have seen was a ruger 10/22 as I am sure you know. I upgraded it by having the receiver and trigger reworked by Randy at CPC as well as jeweling the bolt. the barrel was replaced with a Fluted 18 inch Gun Metal grey fade to black by Whistle Pig, The
stock was an Ultra Walnut made by S&K finished in high gloss polyurethane and I had S&K laser engrave the Ruger emblem on the forearm section. I also had them install a 1 inch recoil pad. That stock was one of the last that S&K made for the 10/22's and I believe it was one of they're finest. The bolt handle was also replaced with one with a ruger emblem (although I can't remember where I purchased it from). The Scope was a Leupold 3-9 x 40 EFR.
Accuracy of the rifle was simple 5 shot groups could be completely covered with a dime.

I be honest I must also state that although I now regret it I have not owned that rifle for the past 3 years or so due to having to raise capitol to cover costs for my cancer treatments. The sale helped save my life but it took a piece of my heart with it when I had to let it go.

I hope my information has helped and if I might ask a favor of you I would like if it does possibly win a prize if you would consider giving it to Dr Heckel since he so generously submitted it to the contest.

Thank you once again
NY Marksman (Noel Kucera)

You have my full cooperation and permission as well as my thanks

InfamousJ -

Thank you for the nomination!!

I have done a little changing of this build since these photos were taken.

This was a stressful build, as the Clark barrel stuck about half way in and after the temperatures equalized, it would not budge, either way. With your stuck barrel travails, I know you can commiserate.

I will pull out some targets and shoot some fresh photos, maybe even Renaissance Wax her.

I, too, are of the opinion that this month's winner to be just a forgone conclusion. I am certainly voting for TBRs project, myself. Very comparable to the first month's runaway victor, I predict.

Thank you again for allowing me to share some of my rifles with you all.

Best regards,

John

In the July UoTM contest, Hipshot's Lavender Lady was one of the entries submitted and since the first day I laid eyes on it, I thought it was the most amazingly beautiful creation I'd ever seen...Until of course I saw Charger Tom's "Buttercup"...It's been around for years but deserves some serious recognition as one of the most amazing "ultimates" to ever grace the pages of RFC...It's like a 100ft vintage yacht upgraded with all the modern amenities sporting designer eye wear and G96 cologne :eek:...Although I've never found any target pics of his, and he hasn't visited us since April of 2009, it would be a shame to not have it nominated or recognized...

Wasn't going to do it but what the heck. This was one of the first stocks I worked on since being on the RFC. As a matter of fact, it is the ONLY one I still have in my possession, lol. The build is as follows:

Heier Trigger w/speed release
Reworked bolt (By me)
GM Fluted 18" Sporter barrel
Unfinished Bastogne Stock by Emma Creek gunworks, bought rough and unfinished and 80% inlet. Modified with front bedded pillar, bedded receiver rear and sides, Bubinga grip cap and forend tip with white maple spacers, TruOil satin finish.

Sorry, no targets at this point. Can't get to the range, but she is a shooter.

And with (I think) a Mueller 8.5X25-50 scope mounted. Man, I NEED to get to the range!

Obviously not near the quality of the TBR build but hey, it ain't half bad either, lol.

Wow! I didn't even know you actually owned any 10-22s, LOL!

That's a thing of Beauty, George!!!!

Here is a short thread on the "build" where I show the rough tip and cap before I shaped them. And the finish was the "Elixir", which I no longer use, though it does seem to be holding up well.

http://www.rimfirecentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=398447

I think back then this was all I did. Was a new guy on the RFC and wasn't all up on the way things were done.

Couple of old pics I found when I was doing the tip and cap

And the barrel is actually a 20" long GM fluted Sporter, not 18.

golden ghost and red raptor charger

Can you tell I AM DESPERATE TO WIN THIS MONTH!!!! I NEED TO WIN SO I CAN DO MY WIFES CHRISTMAS GIFT, OR ELSE WHO WINS CAN SELL ME THE AERO BARREL. IT'S A TAPERED BARREL WITH A SHROUD. SHE NEEDS A LIGHT BARREL. I AM SO DESPERATE TO WIN, 1ST OR 2ND, AS I NEED A BOLT FOR HER TOO. I AM BUILDING MY OWN TRIGGER. Found enough parts to build one. I am disabled, and this takes a lot out of me to do this stuff. I do a lot on my back laying down and the disease I have, the more I move, the more I hurt. I hate to beg, but I need this so bad. I am dead broke and need a way to get my wives gun done. This is pathetic I know, but I really really need it. I have a ton of guns I have done, but I am not going to clog it all up since the number 1 and 2 have already been chosen, and the number 3 prob. chosen. I will just try and get parts by selling more stuff and trying to trade for stuff. Thanks. Maybe next time...

ok thought I would share this one, its been around a while but as testament to the fact that it works it has remained unchanged and runs 100% faultless

its built with a function in mind, gallery rifle shooting here in the UK

its no supermodel, but I dont think that it fell from the top of the ugly tree, maybe from 1/3rd of the way down :)

the build is around an early Tactical innovations receiver with the removable scope rail. inside the receiver was cleaned tidied, polished smoothed etc

bolt is a reworked stock unit, rear radiused, headspaced, and kidd extractor fitted

VQ bolt handle fitted with guide rod mirror polished and the hole in the handle open up by .5mm

12.5" VQ carbon THM barrel, with the pepperpot muzzle thingy modified with machine screws inserted to act as a muzzle brake, did actually work to a degree.

kidd 2 stage trigger with straight blade, and my own magazine release lever, this was before kidd did theres, but mine has a built in button for fast bolt hold open action, here in the UK when moving between positions we have to lock bolt open, this saves precious time and give more for shooting.

on top of the receiver is a mover base, this is for when shooting the moving target stage of the bianchi match, the target travels 6ft per second, this base allows you to adjust and zero it with the required lead, so you just aim centre target and shoot it, rather than remembering the lead at each distance

stock is a boyds barracuda, modifed to allow left and right hand shooting, we shoot weak and strong shoulder in the same matches here so thats an important feature, could have used an evo ambi stock, but hey everyone on the line has one of them.

adjustable buttpad fitted to give correct drop and fit the stock in shoulder properly.

on the front is a pair of barricade wings, 10mm thick carbon fibre with strips of washing machine drive belt bonded to the front, these screw to the front of the stock, when we shoot barricade stages you just push that against the frame and get in on target then rattle the shots off, also serves as a cool stand when its on the bench.

Very nice rifle UK-Tony:bthumb: When I first became interested in 10/22s and was going through the Ultimate picture threads your rifle was one that stood out. Sounds like its perfectly customized to give you an edge in the type of competition you shoot in. Nice job!

#32 ·
to build this now, probably in the region of ÂŁ1800-1900 so about $2800 USD ?

a custom build with a kidd barrel and trigger etc is about ÂŁ1400 here in the UK

prices here are basically your dollar price plus about 10-15%, but in pounds sterling

kidd trigger with speed release is about ÂŁ330 GBP so about $500usd

SK ammo is ÂŁ87 per 1000 so about 130usd per 1000, but hey its only money, cant take it with you LOL
