Would like to replace the thin stock Ruger grips with a thicker grip, like a stock 1911 grip.

Like the double-diamond look, but the current grips are too thin - makes the pistol feel slab sided to me. Any ideas?

Just buy a 1911 grip of your choice and trim the upper left corner of the left hand grip panel with a sharp knife . It takes about 1 minute to do or buy the hogue wrap around 1911 grips and again trim a small amount of the rubber off. For my MKIII 22/45's I use 1911 grips because they are cheaper than Ruger 22/45 grips.

Yes, you need to mill or grind down the sides (same for original 22/24s) drill and tap for the threaded inserts, then use standard 1911 grips with that corner cut off.

Another option is a hogue slip-on rubber grip. MUST be removed to disassemble pistol, as it ends up covering the main spring assembly/take down lever.

"Yes, you need to mill or grind down the sides (same for original 22/24s) drill and tap for the threaded inserts " Racer have you done this ?
Kings house used to do those but his TAT was terrible and he received a lot of flack over his work. He had a jig set up to mill off the molded in grips then drill and install the 1911 inserts.
I have not tried this for fear I would ruin my grip frame . I do not know if any one still provides this service . I would be interested because I just bought a MKIII 22/45
4.5" Hunter with grip frame with molded in grips. I would very much like to make the grip frame a RP to better compliment this nice looking gun !!

I had this one done by kingshouse41225 before the troubles:

His work was excellent.

"had this one done by kingshouse41225 before the troubles" Excellent looking grip frame !!
Doug did a couple for me and you are correct he did nice work !
I wonder if any one is still doing this mill /convert job?
I put an ad in the classifieds to buy a MKIII 22/45 RP grip frame but think the odds of getting one are slim.
I just bought a Nice MKIII 22/45 4.5" hunter that has molded grips and would like to "dress it up some" with nice wood grips.
If any one knows some one still doing that job , please let me know.
Sorry for hijacking the thread.

OP the Hogue 1911 wrap around grips will probably give you what you want as far as larger better grip !

Doug did my early production Mk III 22/45 several years ago when he first started offering the service and installed an Ed Brown extended mag release as well. I went with a set of 1911 standard rubber grips. His work was perfect and converted one of my least liked pistolas into one of my favorites.

Does anyone know about the grips a couple guys told me I was lucky that on mine I had the brown grips with the Ruger eagle but my buddy just told me that he found the original grips that came on it and they are pearl looking and stamped on the underside is the make and model of the gun. So I did not know what was what when it comes to the grips. Which are which.
