Scope choice for rimfire KD 200 yards

Hi Folks,

I am nearsighted, and now Father Time has granted me farsightedness lol.

I hope to be attending a 200 yard known distance appleseed this year. I've attended Appleseed 2x and it was a humbling experience each time. The first time I was fighting my equipment big time; the second time, less so, and I made Rifleman.

I have a variety of scopes, and for Appleseed I have used a 3x acog and a 1-4x Athlon. I am concerned about how things will look shooting all the way out to 200 yards. I have a cz 457 that I regularly shoot at 100 yards most of the time. I shoot well with that but the scope is a Burris 5.5-30x. I stopped lugging my spotting scope, so the 30x comes in handy.

So I was wondering if I could get some recommendations. I realize that too much power is counter productive and make things more difficult. On my last clinic 3x was perfect. I also realize that getting the scope forward enough for prone is the biggest challenge, so I guess I will also ask what rings or cantilever base have people been using to good effect. Using the 1-4x Athlon I used an AR cantilever base...the problem with that was the height. And that cantilever base still placed the scope further back than optimal.

I don't mind paying for good glass...I just want to get a good scope so I can see out to 200 yards effectively at the clinic.

Thanks in advance!

You do want some juice when your shooting at 200 yards, At least I do.

I just got one of these, https://www.ebay.com/itm/383936686575?hash=item596468e9ef:g:XhwAAOSwmQdf2PC3

And its nice. Otherwise , its off to Vortex, or Leupold fo 3 or 4 times the money.

As for rings, get some separate cantilever rings, those are easier to get the scope as far forward as you can than a one piece.
Something like these https://www.amazon.com/gp/slredirec...2&sr=8-105-spons&psc=1&qualifier=1645880287&id=66032059487723&widgetName=sp_btf

****YIKES, forgot one minor detail****
This is a recommendation of a scope for a 10/22 for the 200 yard known distance!!!
The CZ is my heavy bench gun lol.

So yes, looking for a high quality scope suitable for the 200 yards. Writing posts at 2am is not conducive to providing good details. My apology!

On the 200 yard KD, we will be doing a lot of dialing right? I'm also not sure what distance they zero at. Thanks!

Still shouldn't need a cantilever mount. A pair of rings will work. if anything get an extended scope base.

I also wouldn't get any low power scope. Get something like the other rifle. A good 5-25x would work. Not sure what your price range is.

This is the Vortex PST Gen II 3-15x44 I had on there for a while. It would work if trying to get something lower on the bottom end.

I signed up for the rimfire KD next month. I also have been to an Appleseed before, and a KD, both last year. Very humbling. Congrats on the Rifleman patch! I will try once again in July.

I decided I didn't like all the scope dialing everyone else had to do, so I got a Hawke 4-9x with the speed calibrated reticle for CCI standard velocity. They also have a version for minimags. Now, I just use the on-screen distance marks (the yardage numbers are right there!) and no re-zeroing.

Hey, what ever you are comfortable with!
I have shot the 200KD with a old simple Nikon 2-7 duplex($125), 1 round down from a clean.
Also with Nikon 1.5-4.5 600 BDC($99), 1 round down from clean in the rain.

The next KD i have upgraded to a Athlon 2-12 helos, i want to try active dialing.

You dont have to get caught up with extreme magnification, I shoot High Power Service Rifle out to 600 with both peep sights and 1-4 scope. that is shooting for points not hits!
