Sawdust Challenge - 1/4" @ 25 Yards

A history lesson: When we started up the original SuperStock there were many claims about "My stock Ruger/Marlin/Savage can shoot XXX size groups all day long". We knew that some of these were hard to believe. But one man, Sawdust, figured out a way to both put a stop to the outrageous claims and to give us a way to PROVE that our rifles would shoot well. He started the 1/4" Club. He also changed RFC forever. All these games that we have so much fun with or that drive us crazy or even become an obsession started right there with Sawdust. Our tribute to the man will be The Sawdust Challenge.

The rules, then and now are simple. SSB rifles only. You shoot four 5 shot groups on the same target from a minimum of 25 yards. You also shoot 4 individual holes. These holes are measured for diameter and those 4 measurements are averaged. That average is used to subtract from the outside to outside group measurements. If that measurement is .250" or less that group is good. If you get FOUR out of FOUR you have met the Challenge...........the Sawdust Challenge.

Good luck and good shooting.

Please note:
Any target submitted must has been shot AFTER this Challenge began.

Measuring holes must be well away from the groups and positioned in such a way as to be IMPOSSIBLE to interpret as fliers.

Wow, Vincent,

i think you are gonna be very busy keeping up with entrants for this game,

thanks for getting it going,

will give it a try when the wind goes below 45 MPH, haha,

rico....hope it dont take as long as it did the 1st time, OUCH !! lol,

#4 ·
Oh yeah, Am I glad I decided to go ahead and work on my two rifles. This is going to be fun. Maybe with the bedding on the Savage and the adj sear mod on the CZ , I' may be able to get them both in.

What a time to be low on ammo, LOL. :shakehead

#6 ·
Thanks Vincent. :bthumb: I'll be trying soon.

Hey, guys,
Notice that he started this game at night. Ol' Vince is trying to keep us from hurting ourselves. :D

PS: Rigger, you can order more ammo tonight. Should be here by the weekend. :p Besides, 510's are CHEAP! ;)

#7 ·
well,

the way these guys have been shooting at 50 yards, this should be a
"walk in the park", lol,

the only que is who will be 1st? the hare or the tortoise, and with what gun?

how about the odd-ball BB? haha, will see tomorrow, if the wind is down,

hay, all, we should see a few "Zeros",

rico....

#8 ·
LOL, man Bigfoot if I had the money I'd order a case. But as Uncle Murphy would have it he broke my 200 amp main breaker and totaled my central ac, roughly $2500.00 worth. So I'm waiting on a payday. :(

But I do have 100 rnds 510's and 50 rnds Remington Subs. Got to see what I can do with them. :D

#9 ·
Hare or the Tortoise? LOL. Will have to check the wind in the morning, but will also have to re-sight in both scopes before I can shoot. Humm and with 150 rounds, should be enough for 4 trys at either club.:D

#11 ·
Humm, rigger,

150 rnds would make me nervous with two guns, esp with the way i keep
adjusting torque values and such. and you have to re-zero in two scopes,
if was me, i would pick one and set it up and go for it. if i had a normal
"stick shift" in .22lr i would go with the rem subs. my latest batch of 510's
aint doing as well as previous batches, i have gotten. hard decision,
but we should see a few bug holes here, on this game. big diff btwn 25 & 50
yds,

rico....

#12 · (Edited)
i think the "ruskie" will be on the firing line shortly. shouldn't have a prob
@25 yds ?? LOL,

have a bunch of odd ball ammo that i've been wanting to try; like PMC, for one
for starters. will be fun anyway. got a bunch of mag ammo, so should be a
re-larning xperience,

rico....

#16 ·
If things go as I hope they do today, then I may be making a run for this game come Saturday and Sunday. Accquiring a new rifle not withstanding, this G** D*** wind still needs to settle down before I can shoot anything decent.....but I'll be trying all the same no matter what the weather brings......

#18 ·
its good to see this thread going on. excellent choice on the name of the game Vincent. well seeing how this is going on now I may just have to start taking a bolt action along with me to the range. :D

#20 ·
Shooting for this "Challenge" will be an honor - Sawdust and Squasach made a huge contribution to SS/A and Sawdust's game was a catalyst for the success of Vince's vision of SS/A. A salute to you Vince for getting this started and recognizing Sawdust! :bthumb:

#24 ·
thanks rigger. its a single shot heavy .22, this thing hardly moves when ya shoot it. all I had to do was a little squeeze to the rear bag and touch the trigger. it did all the work I assure you. figured I'd start off with probably the best shooter I have and go from there.

#29 ·
Que,

Thats a nice looking rifle ya got there. Going to send ya my Savage and you have your H&R teach mine to shoot, LOL. Great shooting again Que that rifle sure knows how to shoot. :bthumb:

Rico,

The wind is still kicking out there. Tried anyway but neither of mine liked the wind so shut it down. Will post the 2 failed targets later when I get a chance. Right in the middle of disking up the garden.

#30 ·
thanks you two pirates. rigger sure send that Savage on over here..... unsure how long it'll take to whip it into shape haha
this one has a 2lb trigger on it. I may see if I can adj that down some and see what it'll do.
