Saw a factory CZ 457 never seen before in Cabela's

Saw a CZ 457 in Cabela's a few hours ago, sorry didn't think to take a pick. Price was $899.99
Was in a very light grey synthetic stock with adjustable butt and cheek piece.
Checked CZ's WS and 2022 catalog no sign of it.

All the gun counter people were very busy and there was a fair amount of people still waiting to be taken care of so I didn't attempt to talk with a person about the CZ rifle Couldn't tell if it had the MTR chamber or not..

Looked a fair amount like a B14R.
Anyone know anything about it?

IIRC, there was a list of rifles that CZ was discontinuing, at least here in the States, that I saw online a few months ago, and unless I'm mistaken, the LRP was on that list. Not that there's anything wrong with it, but if CZ wasn't seeing the numbers of sales of it here, that would probably be justification to stop importing them into the U.S.

Hammond Indiana. Located immediately west off of I-80 and the south bound Indianapolis exit.
Had one in the gun room you could examine and at least two in the racks behind the gun counter.

My first impression of it was (I hoped) that CZ took the barreled action of a Varmint MTR , fluted the barrel and stuck it in a synthetic stock similar to the one used on my B14R..

To be brutally honest I stopped myself from taking it out and handling it for fear I might buy it.
Once I handle a firearm I'm interested in end up liking it even more. I tend to buy it.
Than God I didn't act that way with women.

But If I buy it I will have to #1 buy a scope likely an Athlon Helos BTR Gen 2 with the APLR6 reticle #2 rings and a 20-30mao base and then improve the trigger. I'm about to quite unexpectedly come into a decent amount of money so I can save it all or spend part of it on a second hirer quality factory 22lr rifle in the <$1200 price point.
As far as higher quality bolt action sub $1200 22lr rifles go IMO my choices are one of several CZ's or another B14R.
The fact I have almost 40% of the cost of the LRP in Cabela's points makes it VERY tempting.

The original LPR ( as already stated ) is discontinued. The new model not available in the US as yet has a black soft-touch finish.
  • Equipped with a 20” fluted varmint barrel threaded 1/2×28 for use with a suppressor or other muzzle device. The LRP borrows the MATCH chamber that was initially exclusive to the 457 MTR.
  • The LRP’s target-style ( beech ) stock bears a soft-touch finish and has a prominent pistol grip, extended forend, textured grip surfaces, and a prominent rear hook designed to cradle the shooter’s support hand. For those desiring to add a rear monopod, a rail is also present at the toe.
  • Adjustability abounds, with the length of pull able to be tuned with the four included spacers ( 13.8-15" ), while the height of the comb and the butt pad are also user-configurable.
  • Also included in the LRP package is a 25 MOA Weaver-style rail (with a built-in inclination that enables sighting in at longer distances), an oversized bolt knob, and a 5-round magazine.
The ones I saw in the US do not come with a muzzle compensator ( but included a thread protector ) nor have the oversized large rubber bolt knob. The finish on some rifles reported a yellowing around the pistol grip and forearm areas, and the 25 MOA rail is very thin and tends to crack easily. One can cover the rail on the bottom of the stock with 1913 rail covers and let it ride a rear bag in that manner or acquire a monopod which is what it was intended for.

At the $899 price that's not bad and I believe Cabela's currently has a 10% off ( including firearms ) for a few days which would make it a decent price. That of course depends on whether you like the stock. I like the fact that one can cant the butt pad a bit and I have a thing for fluted 20.5" barrels. ;) I like the LPR as well as the MTR . . . but then I like all the CZ 45x rifles in the collection and that is why I bought them. :)

So in your opinion rjferber, and anyone else who feels like adding their input, is the newer model worth waiting for vs this one?
My situation is this
I will be buying another dedicated precision 22lr rifle as I want to set one up for ARA and another for NLR and possibly other disciplines as well.

Right now I have roughly 40% of the cost of this rifle in Cabela's points as well as Cabela's is offering 10% off all purchases including guns add that up and my out of pocket expense for this rifle comes in at $410 W/tax $438.70 OTD
NO WAY I can get any NIB CZ 457 for $410.70
To further complicate my situation only LGS that carries higher end factory precision rifles is my local Cabela's no one else ever has higher end 22lr factory rifles in stock and the Cabela's by me has NEVER had any of the more affordable CZ 457 models in stock and I go to this particular Cabela's at least 1x a week. Never seen a CZ 457 Varmint MTR there or even a 457 Pro Varmint or At One. Never seen them carry and Bergara 22lr rifles either.
So if I don't buy this CZ 457 LRP my choice will almost certainly be buying from an on line vendor pay $15-$30 shipping, 3% CC fee, then a $25 FFL XFR fee. This is likely the best price on a NIB rifle with a match grade barrel and chamber I will ever get.
I wish I could get the same deal on another B14R but that is not going to happen.

If I really want to buy another upper/top tier factory rifle I just don't see how I pass this deal up

Thoughts?

You could easily attach a bag rider or cover to the picatinny rail on the bottom of the butt.
The bolt knob is just a big rubber cover so it can be removed or the knob can be replaced with a M6x1 spec'd knob like on any other 457.
There isn't allot published about these but what I have found is that they are vg shooters.
That said, there is some chatter on the net where the finish on the stock tends to turn yellow with time/usage. Likely a process problem but notice that the the 2022' models are now black in finish. I'm not sure what CZ will do if you warrenty claim a stock finish issue. Maybe send you a new black one?
Cabelas likely got the remainder of what was in the warehouse on this discontinued model. At that price, I'd be coming home with one.

I paid $950 for mine when I bought it back in 2020. The first thing I had to replace was the 25 MOA rail as it cracked under very slight pressure as I was mounting the scope. No big deal as CZ sent out a replacement, however, I used a Bscar 25 MOA rail as I really like his products. Mine did have a slight but noticeable yellowing around the palm swell and front grip area on the right side. I contacted CZ and they were willing to replace the rifle, but that slight discoloration didn't bother me enough to send the rifle back. Playing with it over time I noticed the barrel was touching the forearm area near the front to the point where it was not free-floated. This may have been there from the beginning and I just didn't notice it or the forearm may have warped a bit over time. I have never had that happen with any of my other numerous rifles so I think it was that way from the beginning and I just didn't notice it. After a call to CZ Support, an RMA was issued, and in three days I had a brand new CZ 457 LPR at the door. I really just wanted a new stock but that was not an option for the warranty work.

Mine is currently configured with a Bscar 25 MOA rail, Warne Rings, and a Mueller 8-32x44 SA Target scope - note the Caldwell bipod was just to take pictures.

Yes, I would buy it again . . . especially at the $900 price tag minus discounts and points. The worst case for you is that you don't like the stock so you replace it with an MTR stock if you are only going to shoot off the bench, or just a Varmint stock, or maybe even a chassis setup. You still have a CZ 457 Action, with an MTR, fluted, SR barrel. Hopefully, they are not all sold to other RFC members that have been watching and participating in this thread. :)
