Just bought a Savage Anschutz 64 target rifle
26" Bull bbl, Rail under forend , stipple pistol grip
Trigger is nice crisp 30ozs, would like it lighter.

Orange colored stock
Stock has some crazzing, few dents and I'd like to refinish it
Metal is nice, 98%+ nice

It shoots, I shot a couple of 100's on Mini-Palma targets the first two targets I shot at 100 yds

Looking for info on refinishing stock, close to factory
Trigger adjustment
General info

I remember these in the 70's and early 80's but didn't shoot rimfire much back then

Thanks

Also looking for where to get parts
Trigger assy
Extractor clips and arms
This one extracts very randomly, they always come out but about 5% go to the left and the rest from about 60 to 120 degrees to the right

Anschutz have manuals for some older models on their website:User Manual - ANSCHĂśTZ rifles for hunting, biathlon and sporting use

They list a 1403 from 1977. This may cover trigger your rifle has. Don't expect a 2oz benchrest release though. Match 64s of those period had a decent trigger, but not a super light match trigger; remember, Anschutz built the 1403 for teenagers learning to shoot 3-Position, not top tier competition.

For the stock, I'd just strip off the old goo and use whatever wood finish you have to hand. I'd expect you have beechwood rather than walnut. The factory finish was an orangey-brown varnish intended to give a uniform appearance, rather than to highlight the character of that blank.

Be sitting down when you look for parts prices. Anything Anschutz is not cheap. I recently got a S-A Mark 10 made in 1968. I'm leaving the stock as-is for now, but when I do a stock, I use 0000 steel wool to remove finish down to smooth, then clean and finish with multiple coats of Tru-oil. I let the finish cure good and hard and then go over with 0000 steel wool land linseed oil. Makes a beautiful satin finish.
Mine had the trigger replaced and is very good. Bluing looks in excellent condition.
Mine has the ejection issues that you mentioned. Seems that is common with the rifles. There is information on RFC for correcting it, but I haven't done it yet.
Shoots really good. I am consistent around .4" groups at 50 yds with $5.75/box ammo (Norma Tac 22 subsonic HP). The solid point TAC 22 does about the same. That's good enough for my purposes.
Nordic sportsman has parts that you mentioned.

I redid a 64M stock years ago, one somebody had previously tried to help.
Took my time and it came out fine.
Sold it because I wanted a 54MSR instead.
The 64M shot decent, but so did my 141.

Haven't shot my new to me 1415. Needs scope rings/base and a front sight hood.
Had it scoped last night w D3 prec rings but decided I wanted a bit more stylish rings.
Have some SK standard plus to try.

And some Winchester 42gr Max.
Had a 184 that loved that stuff (none of my other 22 lrs liked it LOL).

Been shooting it every day, mostly off hand,
Scores didn't jump up LOL
Still like the rifle alot.

This was one of those rifles I wanted as a young man and couldn't afford.
So it scratches that 45-year-old itch!

We shoot the A-32 light rifle target at 50ft. (indoors)
I practice during the summer outdoors with a target that I blew up from the A-32 for use at 50 yds.
I've done it for a while, most my life, cause never saw the point of not being able to shoot standing.
Most of my hunting shots have been offhand.
Few western hunts were prone of off a back pack etc.

Need to look up the A23's last time I looked the price was stiff if I remember correctly

Mine is an old 1416.
Got soaked at the gun range so popped it apart.
Prev owner shimmed front of action to float/center the bbl in the channel.
Removed old "fix" and now it bears against side of forend.
Can see where it was relieved down near bottom on one side............its been "off" since new (am 2nd owner).
Stock has dings and dents, not horrible.
Not going to refinish it. But its gonna need a proper bedding job.

Brownells Microbed what I used way back on a couple Rem 700s, w excellent results (looks and performance).
Wonder what to use now?
