Bought new at gun store having problems with ejection of spent shells. Have tried different ammo (Eley, Sk,CCI, Remington and several others) it will fail to extract at least once out of 10 shots.

I don't want to send it back to Ruger it is such a pain in the butt! I have ordered a sharp edge extractor for Volquarson and will try that, Any other ideas would be appreciated.

Always amazing to me that folks will put up with a problem rather than having it fixed because “sending it back is a pain in the butt.” Actually, sending a firearm back to Ruger for repair is very easy. Contact them, they send you a prepaid shipper, you send them the firearm, and a short time later they send it back to you repaired. Not seeing the “pain in the butt” part.

That said, run some Mini Mags through it and see how they do. You should be able to remove the extractor entirely on a blowback pistol and it should still run. My guess is the ammo you have been using does not have enough oomph to cycle the action completely sometimes. The problem will likely go away after break-in.

I have the same gun. When I first got mine and through the first 500 or so rounds my trigger was kinda creepy and not as light as I wanted. I ordered the Volquartsen tune-up kit but had other projects I needed to finish so I sent the kit and the gun to Volquartsen and had them do the tune-up for me. It came back with a crisp 2# trigger and runs like a Rolex.

I've been shooting a lot of the CCI-Pistol Match and Lapua Pistol King ... a couple of rounds I really stocked up on pre-'19 elections. They both run great with exceptional accuracy. One of my favorite range toys ... it's hard to put down.

I just got the same pistol new a week ago, it went back to Ruger on day 3 due to severe stovepipe and trigger reset issues. Have not heard anything yet from the gunshop but they said don't worry Ruger will make it right. I feel your pain lol.

Just curious, what ammunition were you feeding it?
I picked up a new 22/45 last October, and ran 200 rounds of Winchester HS RN,(that was sitting in the back of my rimfire storage box), through it for three trips to the range, 600 rounds. After that it does fine with Standard velocity, and Subsonic. I have a eight .22 autos in my collection, handguns and rifles, it's a standard practice. Because years of .22 semi auto firearms, they generally need a bit of "break in" to run right.

I fed it several brands of ammo ranging from 1070-1280 fps, ammo wasn't the issue it wouldn't run anything. Plus ammo is not going to cause trigger reset issues that were plentiful. Could I have fixed it by just replacing parts? Yeah probably so, but when the pistol runs this bad out of the box then Ruger needs to be spending the dime, not me.

Now see this is where I have a major gripe, a production gun costing nearly $800 should not have to have a "break-in" period of 500 rounds...tolerances on today's production gun s just aren't that tight to require a break in period. For that much money the pistol should run like a scalded dog straight out of the box. No Ruger pistol my father ever bought back in the day (Mk I, Mk II) ever needed a break in period with a magic ammo, didnt need brand new replacement parts...they just freaking worked, and worked for decades. To me this just shows how much quality in manufacturing has changed over the years and not for the better in all cases obviously. Ok now I will step down off my soapbox concerning break in periods. 😁

I had fail to feed and eject with my new Ruger MK IV too.
I added a Volquartsen extractor and their mag springs and followers and it's been perfect since.
I would have done these upgrades either way, but I recommend them for your issue.
