I recently bought A Rossi Model 62 SAC carbine. I probably paid too much for it but I wanted it because it was in the box, unfired with all the original paperwork and still in like new condition.

The serial number was stamped on the underside of the receiver where the receiver meets the barrel. It is SN G225490. Can anyone tell me the date of manufacture. I have read all the old threads on this and I would guess it's around a 1990 build. The carbine was only imported between 1988 and 1998.

It came in the box in two parts and was a bit stiff going together but, the action was perfect, crisp and tight. The trigger is excellent. Not a scratch or mark on the rifle.

I have one also, can't quite recall when I bought it but I know I paid less than 2 bills for it.
One of my neighbors son's is a nice kid going on 11 years old. He's always helping me out and asking if I need something done, good kid.
Last year my son and I taught him firearms safety and with his mothers written permission took him out shooting for his very first time and let him shoot my 62 SAC. We were at a formal range, the range master is a US Marine and he had an AR fully set up with a bipod, scope and suppressor on it. He let Gabriel fire a few rounds with it off the bench. Needless to say he was very happy and we all had a good day.
On the way back he remarked he's been afraid and thought he was going to fire a rifle that would knock him on his butt. We told him I do have those type rifles but he'll only get to try those when we think he's much bigger and can handle it.
I'd like to gift the Rossi to him with his mother retaining control of it but he has an older brother with autism problems and his single mom doesn't have a safe to keep it in :(.
I'll see what I can do to get it to him if and when the safety conditions and time is right.

These are very addicting little rifles. Between all the rimfire calibers to chase after, and then blend in….

the early octagon barrel, 22lr only vs S, L, LR capable, nickel finishes, stainless, case hardened finishes, carbine and rifle lengths, add the rear tangent sight accessory, scope mounts, the bolt safety conundrum, and the occasional nice wood bonus…..you can spend a few bucks and time collecting these rifles.
They are fun to shoot and look for.

My G152xxx was made around 1978-79; my father bought it new for me right around 1979.
I do disagree with your 1988-1998 timeframe for the carbine imports; mine is the 62SAC carbine.
Great trigger for sure (better than a well-worn Winchester 62A /after/ a trigger job); I think that Rossi was using better steel than what went into the later Taurus 62's.

I have managed to pick up 3. One is a Rossi/Taurus stainless carbine with that atrocious bolt safety, the other two are original Rossi's, one blue with a round barrel and the other is nickel/stainless with a round barrel. All three are excellent shooters and will keep pace with my Winchester 90's, 06's and 62's.

Here's one I've not seen many of, likely more around than I think...

.22wmr, in near new condition, came from a good friends estate.
I went 22, mine will handle all three S L and LR I got both a 62SA (same size as the Winchester 62A) and the shorter 62SAC just love to shoot those rifles, I got a Winchester 62A it is quiet a bit heavier than the Rossi's and does not see as much daylight as the SA and SAC.
