Rock River Arms .22LR Upper Range Report

I finally got the RRA upper in .22LR and put everything together.

RRA Tactical Carbine upper in .22LR. Vortex mount and scope, Viper PST 3-15X. Lower is a Colt with a Geissele trigger. The buttstock is the Magpul PRS stock. Magpul bipod.

The groups were fired at 50 yards with 25 rounds in each target. The fliers were my fault. I was not at my best today but settled down and was later able to hit some golf balls at 100 yards with this rifle.

All I shot was CCI SV. The muzzle velocity averaged 1035 FPS.

One of the ten-round magazines would not go in the magazine well. It was simply too wide. So I have request for an exchange submitted with RRA.

Does anyone have any suggestions for other brands of magazines that will work with the RRA?

If anyone else is shooting a RRA .22 LR what ammunition performs best in your rifle? What kind of groups are you getting?

My lower is a RockRiver,, top is a complete CMMG, it groups about 1.25moa with CCI standard velocity. Of course groups shrink as the quality/price of ammunition used increases, it'll group under 1moa with Tenex but I haven't won the lottery yet so I'm still shooting CCI sv!
Most of the targets at NLR22 are bigger than my group sizes so it's good enough.
I use the S&W magazine with a redi-mag adapter, it works flawlessly.

I consider my gun a legitimate NRL22 rifle and there's a bunch of 22's that are either not accurate enough or lack the stock configuration to use the necessary accessories.
This picture is from when I first started shooting NRL22, per normal once you get into anything you find out what works for you and what doesn't, I've changed the scope, bi-pod and ammunition. Added 5 magazines to give me more time to set up the scope during the match.

When I click on this photo, I get redirected to an unfamiliar website for a photo hosting service. I see pretty girls and diet pills advertising. I like girls, but; that is often a warning. RFC will host all our photos for free. No need for this. Not really blaming Kevin here. But this is his post.

To clarify, the problem with links is they may seem like a legit web link and may not be. It could be legit photo_bucket or some site spoofing photo_bucket. Or photo_bucket has advertising from a questionable web site. You dont have to click on an ad. Just hover the mouse can activate spyware. No click needed.

There is probably nothing I can do as a humble member, but; I dont like links hidden under photos like this.

Do you have any follow up reports on that RRA regarding reliability and accuracy/precision? I've been waiting on a complete CMP NM A4 rimfire for about 14 months now that should be done any time. Somehow my order got lost and so they created a new one a month ago and said about 4 weeks to finish. I'm on the verge of cancelling the order.

The bolt on RRA is held open by the follower on an empty mag. I don’t think you can manually lock the bolt back with standard AR-15 bolt catch. A Catch 22 would probably lock the bolt back but might not be actuated by the magazine follower.

I have only seen pictures of the RRA dedicated 22 LR upper and bolts. The bolts look like the early pattern Nordic bolt. I’m unsure which bolt RRA is currently using. I don’t own a Catch 22. If your Catch 22 will not work with your RRA send me a PM and I will buy your Catch 22. I have three dedicated 22 LR uppers where I can use a Catch 22.

Here is what I’ve read on Catch 22 web site. Uppers or bolts compatible with Catch 22 version 1

Nordic Components V3 upper receivers (rounded bolt)

Catch 22 is not compatible with these uppers (bolts)

Nordic Components V1 upper receivers (square bolt) early version
