Well, it depends. The S&W 640-1 (357) is also my choice for unknown areas. For more family friendly areas, my Charter Arms Undercover (38) has been a steady companion since the mid 1980's. When the S&W 640-1 came available in 1996 I had to have one.
For more formal settings, my choice for a barbeque style gun would be my Ruger SR 1911 (45 of course)

Years ago I carried a Charter Arms Undercover then I moved to Glock 42 then to a S&W Shield Plus and a year or so ago I went back to the Charter Arms. It carries easier, I can get it out of the holster faster with a good grip and the leather holster is more comfortable for me. I also think I am a bit better snap shooter with it.

I carried a colt Mustang 380 Pocketlite for awhile. It was light enough but it really didn't perform that well with jamming and malfunctions with various ammo's. So I got an AMT and tried carrying it for a spell but it was bulky and too heavy for me. Since I've retired, I've gone to the NAA Mini Master 22WMR for my EDC. I'm really comfortable carrying it.
I've ordered a "small of the back holster" and that should even improve the EDC.
My every day carry is now limited to my fishing trips, walks in the parks and the hiking trails.

My carry gun is either the Sig P365 or a Taurus TCP .380. The Sig can pocket carry sometimes, or I carry cross draw in a Carjacker holster, or in an Urban Carry holster, or appendix. I don’t dress to the gun, I change how I carry it based on how I dress. I also have a spare slide with a red dot, so that’s another option.

The Taurus is my pocket carry in literally any outfit.

And once in a while I strap on a CZ 75 Compact. It’s behind the hip, IWB or out, depending on where I’m going.

The Sig, fully dressed, with Mag Gutz 12 round mag. I also have an XL grip to put it in, but I never do, because I have other guns that are that size.

Hi, my carry weapon is the ability to think quick, be able to run faster than others or use whats available lying around as a weapon. We aren't allowed to carry guns in Australia. Probably just as well, we're all crazy here from the hot weather, so giving us carry guns would be insane. The only time you can defend yourself would be in a home invasion and you'd have to say you were checking your rifle for magazine issues and had ammo in it at the time and they broken in and attacked you.... so no shoot'n in the back.

Sounds like Matthew Quigley and Mick Dundee would be pretty bored in modern day Oz. I've seen photos of the truckloads of confiscated guns. Hard to believe Australia was founded by ex convicts.
