I have been making wood boxes and cases for my rifles and pistols.
A funny thing about pistol boxes.
Early boxes for flintlocks, the pistol is most always pointed to the right, makes sense because of the lockworks.
Later boxes for revolvers, the barrel is most often is pointed to the left, that could be because all the lettering "Colts" is on the left side.
I came across a box for a Colt that belonged to Buffalo Bill Cody. That box, the revolver was pointing to the right. Buffalo Bill must of been a practical person, after checking that out, if you are a right handed person, the revolver can be picked out and placed back in the box with one hand.
If the revolver is pointing to the left, it takes two hands to remove and replace
