Who all has one? I have one in the BDL with a leupold 6-14. It was made on the 60s but it was a safe queen that I recently got for 375

silver is beautiful

man, how sharp looking is this 572! very unique look and a solution to the crappy paint remington puts on! you would think that after as long as the 572/552 rifles have been produced the mfg might be able to come up with a more durable finish! after all ,this isnt a $150. .22 rifle. my 552--1967 and my 572--1981are both great guns but the receiver finish sucks big time. rest of it looks outstanding but both receivers look like crap.:(

Is it just me or doesn't the heft of the 572 just feel great! Back when ammo was raining down from the sky, I'd load mine up with .22 shorts and just plink away. Shot it that way with a buddy shooting his 10/22. He was amazed how many shots the pump could put out. Even today with ammo being scarce, the 572 is still fun to shoot single-shot.

jon p - I agree that the 572 is the best pump 22 out there. Actually traded an almost new Henry pump for mine. The Henry was back to the factory twice and still wasn't right. Bought my first new in 1969 and traded for a Marlin 39A and second was given to the Grandson. I have always been impressed with the accuracy of the 572 and personally have never had a problem with the receiver finish, however, the finish on Popeye 1947's rifle is amazing.

they are rare

i have only seen pics, never a real one. gunbroker always has a few, but really nice ones are scarce and expensive! i have heard the anodised color finish is soft and very east to scratch. the barrel was also aluminum with a steel liner. they used lighter weight wood--not walnut-- and even an aluminum butt plate.instead of 6.5 lbs, it weighs in at about 4.0 lbs, like a nylon 66, wow!

Bell's Gun Shop

Wow,that was WAY back when Bell's still had a good reputation and was probably when Bell still owned it.
It sure went thru a sorry succession of owners since then.
If I recall correctly they got busted for illegal sales and were shut down.
I left Chicago in 2012 and moved to the Free United States,AZ.

bottom receiver cover

any trouble getting it out or in? how hard was barrel retaining screw to get out? how did you do it? in your pic there is something in your adjustable wrench--what is that part?? my 552 seems very tight and i really havent tried to remove it yet. i know the receiver is aluminum and i do not want to mess anything up!

572

Good day everyone:
I have a 1958 572 that i'm right in the middle of a full redo.
I'll post some pics of the final product when I get it finished up.
So far I've got all the parts that need to be blued all pollished up and ready.the receiver still needs a little more sanding and the stocks only have 4 coats of trueoil on them.

Cool. I am joining the club soon with a WB marked 572 [according to date code]. I am a bit confused though. Were there different barrel lengths back then? The sales person listed it as a WB 1955, but the barrel is listed as 21". Was the first 572 an 'A' model, or was the 'A' introduced later in the decade?

the 572 pump has been produced since the late 1950s.if no serial # it is before 1968.
Are you sure about the serial numbers not being before '68?

I know it wasn't a federal requirement of .22lr rifles to have them before then, but I also know my 1954 Marlin 39A has one. The one I am buying has a WB marked barrel [I have been told-won't have it for 10-15 days] but a serial number also. The barrel length is making me curious as well.

I am trying to figure out if I am getting a 1955 or a 1981 Fieldmaster 572. It isn't a BDL, so I am happy. I like the lower stock for ear muffs at the range. I won't be upset if it isn't a 1950s gun, but I would prefer it to be.

Thanks

Finally got the pump 22 I've always waanted. Super great price, lil rough obviously been well loved. Has a chrome magazine tube, aluminum reciever. Heard these are rare? Blued barrel and receiver, not a twb or anything. Still excited. Anyone have any insight to that chrome mag? Replaced im guessing? Barrel code puts the gun at '58.

good find, but not "RARE"

the 572 pump has been produced since the late 1950s.if no serial # it is before 1968. ALL have an aluminum receiver that is painted black. sounds like someone has replaced the blued magazine tube with a chrome one.in front of the trigger guard there is a metal filler plate---is it blue ? Remington did make some "featherweight" pumps that had a colored aluminum barrel and receiver with chrome trim such as the mag tube. the guns were a bright blue, black and tan color. receivers were anodized, not painted. sounds like yours is the standard model that has had some parts changed over the years. you can determine the date of mfg using the two letter code found near the rear sight on the left side of the barrel.is your stock checkered? does it have very basic front/rear sights or the ADL/BDL long ramp front and large adjustable rear sight? whichever model you have, they are great guns,i have a 1987 pump and a 1967 552 automatic. clean it up and shoot it a lot.:AR15firin:bthumb:

remington got it RIGHT

when they introduced the 572 back in the late 1950s. I have owned one since I bought my first one--used-- in 1960. I ended up trading it off about 5-6 years ago, BAD MISTAKE on my part. last year I found a nice used 1987 BDL, it will stay with me as a companion to my 1967 552 speedmaster. I also own a new henry .22LR pump which I like very much, but it will never equal the 572.;):bthumb:

May have told this story before, if so, sorry.... Bought my first in 1969 and loved it. Later (early 80's) traded for a 39A which I also really liked but always wanted another 572. Was very hard to find a nice one so two years ago gave in a bought a Henry pump and believe me it was no 572. Spotted a real nice BDL 572 on GB and it was in an LGS near to where we live so I called and asked about a trade for the Henry and to see it he would pull the GB listing. He said yes and I could not drive the 25 miles fast enough. Traded even and happy to do it. The 572 is one sweet pump 22 and IMO the best out there.
