A while back I dug my old 512 out for a clean and test fire. Last time it was in the field was in late 90's .Jammed every shot .This time it was no different.

Finally a total tear down / clean revieled old varnished oil between cartridge stop and carrier . Detail clean these parts .The staked pivot screw is critical in the adjustment .
The screw is supposed to be tightened fully ,then backed off 1/4 turn .
But that's just close .
This screw tightens the resistance of the two pieces ,so adjusting until the fit is tight but the carrier can pop up at correct timing.
Once confirmed the pivot screw needs to restaked by center punch metal into slot.
Working perfect now.

The carrier and cartridge stop fit together via a small boss and the pivot screw . The factory setting to not work on this rifle
These two items need to be clean and polished with steel wool to maintain smooth bright finish .
The fit needs to be tight enough so the boss can stay in slot but loose enough for the carrier to snap up at correct timing.

i had the same feeding problems with mine that i bought at lgs. i did what you did but found bubba had used a knife or screwdriver to remove jammed cartridges and actually bent the ears of the receiver insert so that the cartridge would not have the right angle to feed properly. filed and deburred ears and after finding the correct spacing, has worked flawlessly ever since. i scoped mine with a nice old school weaver 4x and is very accurate.

I searched high and low for a fix for this including over here .Nobody had same fixes.
I finally read several posts that lead back to the staked cartridge guide and carrier screw.

I can assure anybody out there if they have one of these Remingtons and it doesn't feed the cartridges into chamber 99% its the fit between these two parts and they're cleanliness.

As in mine it sat for years before I got it in the 1990'And then sat again for just as long .
Possible removal from stock and flush with Break free CLP followed by compressed air will keep these working good.

Experimenting with the adjustment screw is key . Tighten ,then back off 1/4 turn is what I found in one of my gunsmith books . But is just a starter.
Critical these parts are clean and a good burnish with fine Wire brush helps too.
