Is there any reason I can not use a Redfield International Front Sight on a Winchester 52? Picked one up today with all the inserts both clear and metal. Was thinking of using it with either a Redfield Interantional Rear of a Unertl Tube Sight.

Sorry for not answering your question but been meaning to ask, what is the difference between th International front and an Olympic??? Different inserts I assume? But other than that. I sometimes see them referenced as 'Big Bore'?

Hope this is ok to ask usmc69 on your post? If not will delete.

Respectfully,

This one has a bell and is about 4 inches long including the bell. It came with a red plastic holder that says REDFIELD INTERNATIONAL BIG-BORE with 12 inserts. Six are clear plastic and six look like the regular metal inserts except they are made out of plastic. What is this worth? I traded an Olympic Front with inserts for it.

If its 4" long and has a "belled" entry section its not a BigBore as the box states, its a smallbore. Check your insert holder and see if the inserts are for Smallbore or bigbore, there is a difference in aperture size.
The Smallbore International is longer and bigger diameter and lighter than an Olympic and is completely sealed from stray light entry.

Pictured is a very early International that was shorter and made in different heights. It also has the middle aperture open slot. This is not the later version that A J has made reference too.

On mine the front comes off so you can change the apretures. There is no slot that is exposed for changing the apreture, that slot is under the front piece that comes off. The body is 3 5/8" long, the bell is approx. 1/2" long.... so it is 4 1/8" overall.

As has already been pointed out, the Redfield International came in both big bore (no bell) and small bore (with bell.) These went through some slight evolution over time as to length. The real difference is the International is made of aluminum, and not the steel used in the Redfield Olympic. The International also has different sized apertures. Any of these will work fine on your Winchester 52, as Olympics and Internationals used the same mounting bases.
