Polishing a Kidd bolt

I am putting a rifle together for my BIL and bought him a black scalloped bolt. My intention was to polish the side of the bolt and leave the scallops black. Has anyone done this? I guess using a paint pen and silver would be another option, but I like the polished black idea better.

Polishing does remove some material..it can get out of spec...I suggest returning and buying one as stated in the above post..then just prep the inset pattern with Acetone and use Automotive grade paint..either touch up type or spray which can be sprayed into a cup and brushed into the groves..let dry then acetone the outer surface to remove any slop.

crabo, just so you are aware, in the past KIDD had this posted on the site about the finish on their black bolts:

"The black finish is with "Black Diamond" coating. B.D. is an extremely hard and corrosion resistant surface coating which reduces friction and wear by as much as 400%. This gives it a very durable long lasting coat as compared to other methods of making the bolt black. This incredible coating is currently being used in formula one racing engines. Black Diamond will not rub off like bluing or parkerizing and has a surface thickness of only .0002". "

I'm with CrackedCornish and Chaser. Give KIDD a call and see if they can work something out for you.
