Just curious how many lots of Eley 17hm2 were produced. If you have a private stash, please post the lot numbers. Also post Remington 17hm2 lot numbers since this ammo was produced by Eley.

I know that the eley .22lr ammo is manufactured on one of 4 machines. If the ammo was manufactured on machine 4, the lot number will begin with the number 4. In this case, it looks like all of the hm2 ammo was built on machine 4. Eley .22lr ammo lot numbers also have letters that correspond with the date of manufacturing and some numbers that I believe correspond with the fps of the round. Other than assuming that the hm2 was built on machine 4 I have no idea how to decipher the remaining numbers. Attempts to contact Eley directly always fall on deaf ears. Its a good thing that Eley ammo is high quality, because their customer service sucks. I sure do miss buying my Eley hm2 ammo from sgammo.com

Don't know if this is the truth or just a myth, but I have read somewhere here on these forums that all of the Eley ever produced was made in 2005. If the 3rd and 4th digits in the lot number correspond to the year of manufacture, then all the lot numbers we have listed so far would substantiate that.

I did a site-wide search for "4105-4*" and found a few more lot numbers from previous posts that had not been reported here. Just FYI, most of the threads that these lot numbers came from are discussing various defects such as split cases, dented cases, deformed bullets, squib rounds, etc.

While researching these threads containing lot numbers, I stumbled on this -
The 4105 designates year made .The last two digits means it was made in 2005 . The five digit number is the lot number .
source thread - http://www.rimfirecentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=328164

And this -
According to Eley's website it is the last two nunbers in the first for digit group of numbers. For example your lot wich is the same as mine is from 2005, if it were 4106-XXXXX it would be from 2006.
4105 are the first numbers. the last 2 numbers are the year of manf. IE. 05' your ammo is good to go.
both from this source thread - http://www.rimfirecentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=303794

More -
Randy,

You are welcome. I read somewhere that each lot number is one day's production. So your lot numbers were produced on adjacent days.
found here - http://www.rimfirecentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=167672

In hope of finding some lots made other than in '05, I searched for 4104-, 4106, and 4107 with no results.

I also found one other Remington lot number with the above searches - 4305-40062

I would like to see a lot more holes in the list get filed before making too many speculations. We have evidence of numbers from 001 to 235. The longest consecutive run is 76-77-78-79 skips 80 and then 81. My theory is that these are just consecutive lots numbers assigned on whatever day the run occurred. Also, even if lot 001 that Nobody reported is the very first lot, I seriously doubt it was manufactured on New Years Day. :D

Something that is interesting to me is that the Remington lots #'s that have been reported fit into the holes between the Eley numbers. My suspicion is that we will never see the same last three digits in both Eley and Remington.

Also, I have read many times in threads here and other places that say something to the effect that the Remington boxed ammo was the Eley rejects. My opinion is this is an absurd notion... first of all, they have different colored polymer tips. Second, that is just not how high volume manufacturing works. And third, (edit - added after more research) the head stamp on the case is different. I would bet my last nickle that on a given day, or perhaps several consecutive days, Eley would produce that entire lot(s) with Remington amber color tipped bullets and load up the labeling machine with the Remington label stock.

Disclaimer - these are my theories, speculations and opinions. You are more than welcome to form your own. ;)

Information. Isn't that what every thread on here is about?

Just curious how many lots of Eley 17hm2 were produced.
When I started this thread I had no idea that Eley only produced HM2 for one year, 2005. Just now, seven years later, that supply is finally being used up. Actually, large amounts of it are apparently being hoarded (me inclusive ) just because it is claimed to be 'the good stuff'. So just how many rounds of this ammo was produced and why has it taken so long for it to be consumed? After collecting some data, we have documented proof of 59 lots and can speculate that as many as 235 lots were produced. Now I know there had to be more than a case or two per lot, so that starts to put into perspective just how much may have been manufactured.

Just as late as 3 or 4 years ago, the price for a case of Eley was less than $150. That is less than 8 cents per round. To me, since I just bought a HM2 rifle recently, that feels dirt cheap because the cheapest Eley I have bought recently was $250 a case. So why wasn't all this great Eley ammo used up years ago? Overpriced? I don't think so.

The vast over supply of Eley is history. So what does that say about the future of 17HM2 ammo? There is currently only one manufacturer producing it. Maybe we can look back on history and learn something. Then again, maybe not.

All new numbers added to the top post.

Also have Remington which are AJH021,AJH022,AJH043 and AJ8042.
Not sure what to make of these lot numbers. They certainly don't conform to the Eley lot numbering scheme. They don't look like CCI lot numbers either. Does anybody know if Remington switched manufacturers during the years? Perhaps they had Eley change to their lot numbering system??

Thanks, Jamie and Devon. New numbers added to the top post.

I think the chance of that happening is somewhere between slim and none. It took nearly eight years for them to sell all the ammo they produced in just one year. That is not exactly the 'supply and demand' scenario that manufacturers like to be in.
