Anyone own one?
Anyone shot one?

I already have a MK II and single six, so I am not looking for the "save a few more paychecks and buy something a little better" response.

Looks like a funky little 22 and the price is right at $175 in my hands. Assuming it will cycle reliable and I can hit a pop can at 10 yards.

I've had several with both the 3" and 5" barrels. Never had malfunctions with Fed 550 bulk ammo. Also sold umteen out of my store and no customer returned with any complaints about their HP22. If you buy, look on youtube for the easy way to switch barrels and keep recoil spring in place; also removing the useless mag release safety under left grip panel. A very good value for little money and decently accurate as well. Never use hyper speed ammo resulting in a cracked frame. Always will have any gun detractors who could destroy an anvil.

i had a silver one for about 5 years

5 and 3" barrels, satin nickel , I loved that little plinker, but a friend wanted it on a trade so I let it go, I wanted the buck mark more. mine was more accurate with the 3" barrel. I always shot SV ammo since Phoenix warns against HV cracking the frame. go to you tube and look up safety mods for phoenix hp 22. easy ,safe mods that sure make this little pistol more user friendly. it has , I think, 4 different safety features which can make it no fun to shoot. all mods are reversible , so go for it. mine was an excellent shooter, and very accurate. looks sharp also. enjoy yours.

I think that you will find the accuracy comparable to your Mk II. The accuracy on the two that I have is good enough that I sold my Ruger 22/45 and my Buckmark. The HP22A is much lighter, more compact, and easier to carry in the woods and on the trail.

IMO they are just plain cute.

Mine will consistently cycle CCI Quiets, although standard velocity is a better choice for ammo.

Phoenix HP

I've had one for over ten year. Haven't worn it out yet,,, no idea how many shots through it, but I shoot at least 4 mags a week.. Very reliable , with the right ammo,,,your results may vary,,, and easy to disassemble and clean,,,,,,alll in all....a great gun for the only. !!!! And great for even more.!!

Post on another forum called it a Grateful Dead pistol. "It can jam for hours, and all its fans are unemplyed and broke." I guess he might have had a bad one? Another likes them enough that he has two, but they both shoot to the left. He named them Feinstein and Pelosi.

I saw one at the LGS last week for $125. Looked like new, box and papers.

Awesome little pistol - i purchased the range kit that has both 3" and 5" barrels - iv ran about 3500 rounds thru mine and it probably wont make it another 3500 rounds as its as loose as a goose - il be buying another 1 soon, mine has loosened up quite a bit, but it just works for how much longer im not sure but i know il be buying another 1 soon probably 2, my daughter always wants to shoot it everytime she see's it - as a bonus notice the modified mag followers on the extended pinky mags they act as a lock open on last shoot

I believe most of the problems associated with these little guns is caused by shooting high velocity ammo in them. The owner's manual says to only use standard velocity but I also know that real men just throw away owner's manuals. :D

The little sliding barrel release is a stamped piece and has rough edges. Break those edges and it's much easier to use. I used a diamond rod sharpening tool on mine and it only took a few minutes and now I don't need a tool to change barrels like in the video.

I shoot mostly CCI SV in mine and it is reliable and fairly accurate for a small pistol. It's a fun plinker.

Yes i didnt add that to my post i did read the owners manual & yes i was aware that is says to shoot standard velocity ammo - my little hp22a has never seen a single round of standard velocity ammo, every round shoot has been 1200fps or 1250fps mostly federal auto match @1200 fps

I dont complain about my hp22a falling apart, im impressed with this little jewel - i really do plan on buying 2 more and my little hp22a is still ticking - im gonna shoot that thing til the wheels fall off 😆 - fyi guys i have replaced the main spring 3 times

Oh and the enhanced grip aids are by an awesome company called traction grips you can find them on amazon.com or tractiongrips.com i highly recommend them for any pistol you own - they made a world of difference on my xd sub-compact that thing just sticks to my hands now

I've owned mine for about 6 mos now and have prolly 200 or so rounds through it. Shoots fine and haven't had any malfunctions. I shoot only CCI Standard Velocity (1070 FPS) as that is what is recommended. I keep it as a truck gun and it stays in the vehicle. There are things more valuable in my vehicle than the HP22 so I figure if it gets stolen I'll just replace it. I got mine NIB for $124 OTD. $175 seems a little pricey to me. Mine is the black version with the short barrel only.

I had one (I have sold it to my sister-in-law) and the slide cracked at around 3,500 rounds of HV (all I could find) ammo. Called Phoenix and they instructed me to mail them the complete slide. I did and got a new one in the mail in exactly a week. I thought mailing from Virginia to California and getting a new one back in a week was amazing. Great little accurate and reliable gun. When I called, the didn't question me about what ammo I used.

Phoenix

My dad picked up a new HP22a w/3" barrel a few months ago.

I think twice it failed to return to battery in the first few mags but a quick tap on the slide kept the fun comin'. Found out later it was dry as a bone. And both times it was on the mag with the pinky rest which may have just been a coincidence.

We tried a mag of CCI HV just to see how it shot but mainly stuck to std. velocity CCI & Federal no issues. Fun gun, decent trigger, worth the price IMHO.

Greetings, I currently have two of them, get the nickel version, as I believe it's actually plated, instead of the black version, which I believe is a coating. I had a black one, and the finish didn't hold up for long. One of my nickel ones is 23 years old, with many rounds fired, and no external finish wear. These are great accurate range guns, and very reliable. Just be sure to keep them clean/well lubricated, and use standard velocity ammunition! CCI Standard velocity, and/or Aquila Standard velocity function great in mine.
