Opinions on the S&W 650 - (22lr/22wmr)

I've been itching for a 3" "Kit Gun" style 22 for about a year now
There are a few options both vintage and new that I've been exploring
This week I found someone about two hours from me with a S&W 650
It comes with both a 22lr cylinder as well as one in 22 magnum
It is a fixed gutter sight model which I tend to prefer (most folks want adj sights)
It seems they were only made for a few years so there isn't much info on them
The few comments I've found seem to be inconsistent
Some say it has a great trigger and is super accurate
Others say it's terribly inaccurate and has a marginal trigger

We are tentatively going to meet this Sunday

Anyone have experience with this model?
Thanks :)

I have never seen one and I have never held one, but I would love to have one! I would probably prefer the adjustable sight version, the 651 over the 650, especially if I had a gun with the second cylinder. You might want to be able to adjust the sights if the point of impact is different for the 22lr versus the 22 mag cylinders. Either way I would love to find one, especially if the price was right!!! Good luck!

I should add that I have a model 48 and a 648 and they tend to prefer heavier bullets. Groups are much tighter with the 40 and 45 grain ammo.

Go for it, you won't be sorry and it should appreciate in value if you clean it properly after use. One comment about the .22LR Extra Cylinder, I've been told that the LR isn't as accurate out of a .22Magnum barrel because of the difference in bullet diameter but I have only tried the extra cylinder in reverse, meaning that I have a M-617 and a M-63 with Magnum cylinders fitted to them and they are both just as or more accurate with the Mag. Cylinder installed. I say you will be very pleased and proud you did the deal! The Magnum Ammo is a little more expensive and much louder so bring your ear protection when you shoot it. ENJOY!

Im a big fan of .22LR revolvers and really love the 3” J frames. I have a 650 with both cylinders and I tend to shoot the 22LR more. It is a fun plinker and a great carry gun. I also have a 3” 63 that earned a spot in my range bag only because the 3” 650 is worth so much. I’d vote buy the 3” 650 it’s a rare bird.
