This is the kind of wood that used to come on a cheap 22 rifle. Its an old Sears JC Higgins auto safe model 41 DLA single shot bolt action i looked it up and it said they averaged $15 back when they were new in 1941-1961

I recently paid $150.00 for a Rem. 510 semi-inletted, 90% shaped stock that I paid extra for "some figure". That figure does not compare with the stock on your rifle.
Thanks i found this one in a pawn shop and someone had done a crude refinish on it and it looked terrible but when i saw the quality of the wood i bought it and stripped it and i used Tru oil on it.
I bought a rusty Glenfield 100G single shot a few years back, It had this crappy finish on the stock and once stripped and refinished with Arrow Wood finish, this was the result. It's Spalted Beech.

Very Nice! That model was made by Marlin. The wood was so nice on all those older guns because it came from old growth forests. Not plant and harvest ones. Most Marlins had nice wood. Enjoy it.
