It was just the standard Hunter model mudd turtle. Gerald1950 picked it out for me.:bthumb:

Wonder what the difference in weight is for a Quad with a wood stock and one with a Tupperware stock? Also, difference in price? Info appreciated. I'm looking at the $450 close out price at Whittaker's and thinking about that but...

I would guess about $150.00 more. And a weight guess would be about 1.5lbs. more.
For hunting purposes I prefer the synthetic stock model. But I'm weird like that.
The lighter the better I say.

 

The trick with the Hunter now is finding one, other than the Varmints now being offered by Whittakers, they have all but dried up unless you find a used one for sale, I get about two offers a week to buy mine. So far no one has come close to tempting me, and I don't expect to be tempted anytime soon and probably never.

Once you've seen one Synthetic you've seen them all, I know where another about as good as mine and one much better than mine are and I doubt anyone can afford them either.

You just made my point exactly, Gerald. That's a beauty. I have a P94S Varmint with pretty fair wood and I love the balance. I think it's going to make a fine squirrel rifle if I ever get a chance to shoot it. And, I have a Cooper Classic that looks like it's going to be a good one, too, but it is a .17 HM2. So, I wouldn't mind adding a Quad Hunter .22 "for those days when you just need a little something light." I was just kind of wondering what a fair retail price would be if I found one and if the weight would be sufficient to get serious about trying to chase one down.

The Stith stock is cut for a bull barrel, which will be added eventually, but the doggone factory barrel shoots pretty well, too!

Has anybody got pics of the synthetic Quad, but with factory heavy barrel installed.
That is how I have ordered mine, paperwork is all done, just waiting on the parts now.
It had to be ordered as individual parts, as the UK importer doesn't have any stocked actions in their inventory.
But they did have, as spares only, an action, a barrel, a stock, a magazine and assorted screws
Should all be in the dealers by Thursday lunch time, then it's a quick 120 mile round trip, and time to put it all together ready to zero on Friday.

The weird thing is Hornet 6, the factory heavy barrel synthetic stock is a different stock than the skinny barrel sporter stock. I like the heavy barrel synthetic stock better myself. Your lucky, we cant get em here in the states that I know of.

I'm told the cheek piece is a push on extra, have you tried ordering the cheek piece on it's own.

You know more than I do then Hornet 6. I had no idea there was a push on cheek piece. I have never seen a synthetic here with the heavy barrel for sale.

It makes a ton of sense to me to have a single stock that works with both the heavy and light barrels though. I could remove the insert from my synthetic stock and pop on one my heavy barrels and snap a photo tonight. That would give you a sneak peak at what you are going to receive. Less the cheek piece of course.

Well I have wanted a Quad for a while now, but everybody over here says you cannot fit the heavy barrel to the synthetic stock.
Then when I saw the lift out bit (on here) the shops over here said, we don't get that.
It was only with the help of a very helpful shop that I found out we do, but they could not get (didn't want to) a synthetic stocked action unless I bought it with the lighter barrel, which over here causes all sorts of problems, as you need to have permission for each rifle you want, and a barrel is a firearm, as is a moderator.
I had then written of the idea of a Quad, and was going to buy an Annie 1517 hmr.
It was only a chance phone call to a shop I used to buy shotguns from that got the ball rolling again.
And as I have already said, to get what I wanted, it had to be ordered as individual parts, that I will have to assemble.
The shop though can sell me all these parts as a rifle and list it as one rifle on my firearms certificate.
So if you can fit a heavy barrel and post a pic, I would love to see it, as that is just what I am buying.
I will ask about getting a cheek piece on it's own.

Well darnit, I got the insert out of the synthetic stock, the barrel mounted to the action and found a light colored background to take a photo for you Hornet 6 and for the life of me I cant find the little card that goes in the camera I think I left it up at my shop.

The first thing I noticed about the heavy barrel on the synthetic stock was it is nose HEAVY! I am going to pack the butt of this stock full of lead I guess It feels funny being so forward heavy. Man, it looks good though
