I found an old 22 rifle squirreled away by my late (WW2 Vet). I thought it was British but a British forum id’d it at German. It has proof marks and is stamped on the action “429” with what appears to be a serial under the barrel of “1429”. The other marks look like acrorns, one over an “R” and the second over a “U”. Any help is appreciated.

Welcome to RFC ! !

IMO you have a German Training Rifle, made in Suhl, Germany and branded Gecado - which was the name used by the German gunmaker Mayer and Grammelspacher for their export guns after 1940, or most likely by the German gun maker G.C. Dornheim, who used that brand name prior to 1940 ( which matches the date span of the proof marks)

Hi, check out single shot Mauser rifles, although it should be marked as such. Need more photos please.
