Hello,

I have been shooting for many years; however, have never shot SCSA. I have a High Standard .22. Will that gun be sufficient to shoot steel with? How do I find a holster that will fit my gun? Other than the gun, holster and 5 magazines, do I need anything else to start? Are there any gear websites someone might be able to point me to in order to look around?

Thanks.

That's a great gun to use. You don't need a holster for rimfire, just bag it between stages. All firing starts from the low ready, gun pointed down range at a cone 10 ft in front of you.

Find the ammo your gun likes and have at it. You can't go wrong with CCI MiniMags. Make it t6 magazines, just in case there is a problem on a run.

Remember to have fun, ask questions and be safe out there. Good luck.

Old post, but look into LSP barrels for high standard pistols, Brownells carries them. Like many others, I was having difficulty with the irons and found these barrels predrilled for optic mounts. I've purchased a few over the years and have zero complaints.
And just as another poster mentioned, do not shoot mini mags in your HS, stick with cci sv, or some other standard velocity round.

Look up pistol rug or soft case on Amazon or anywhere you'd like to shop for sporting goods including your local gun shop that's all you need and a backpack or other bag if you like. Shaped rugs help with keeping muzzle appropriate but a bag with a label or arrow on it works too!

Any case that holds your handgun will work, hard, soft, makes no difference*. You'll also need a chamber flag, but that can be as simple as a cable tie. After you shoot and show clear the RO will watch the flagging to make sure the handgun is safe before being bagged. Shooting rimfire as I do I find brightly colored cable ties to work great. They get into and out of the chamber easily and not all Chamber flags made for the job do so due to the short rimfire and small diameter chamber.

*My RFRO and RFPO are held slanted toward the ground in open "cases" built into each side of my range bag. Nothing fancy. Just a place to put them and then hands off. It's OK to handle mags and ammo between stages, but the gun cannot be removed unless at a safe table. I go so far as to not touch the firearm unless at a safe table or under the ROs commands. When at a safe table no ammo can be touched but firearms are OK.
