Hello, new Rangemaster owner here. I've been looking for an original example for about 15 years locally and finally turned one up. Barrel code AG, March 1938 very low 1900s serial number. Stock has some dings and dents but after 85 years I'm not going to complain, metal is in excellent shape. I think the metal was dunked in 30 weight after every outing, lots of built up oil in the nooks and crannies. Only thing un-original is the micrometer sight mount, the guy I got it from said a machinist buddy made it up for him years ago because the original cracked. I'm thinking it was one of the long mounts, I can't see the short mount cracking without tearing up the sight and other parts. So I'm on the hunt for a stock two hole base, if anyone has a line on one I'm interested. Thanks for reading and now the pictures.

What a nice rifle! I’m a Remington fan who’s never even seen a 540X and much less a 40X around here in my 60 years of shooting. I stumbled upon a low priced Winchester 52B within driving distance and bought it, and thought not a Winchester fan my eyes were opened to just how cool & accurate these old rifles can be. Glad you got your Remington.
