Hello all,
I am a general newbie to the world of firearms and shooting. Having grown up playing baseball year-round and in an area that was not exactly gun-friendly it was just not something I was exposed to early on. However, I was introduced to firearms a few years ago by a relatively new friend of mine and my interest started to grow and since relocating with my wife to Montana and taking over my late father-in-law's property my interest has grown even more given the collection of firearms I have inherited. Among that collection, relative to this forum, are a Remington 597 and a New Haven Mossberg 250C...both of which I have already become comfortable with and relatively accurate with; more so with the 597 given the relatively decent stock scope it came with and still has mounted. For now, I use these rifles for hunting ground squirrels on the property and am working to figure out the best quality ammo for the job for each rifle. In the meantime I look forward to learning as much as I can about these two rifles, as well as the other firearms in the collection.

Welcome from SW Georgia. Montana is a great state. I hunted in the Miles City area 4 times & in Coal Strip 2 times.

I'm a Mossberg & Remington 5-teen person & would be interested in your experience with the Mossberg 250C.

Thanks for the welcome, Henry. Never been as far east as Colstrip or MIles City, we're in the Bitterroot Valley South of Missoula in the SW part of Montana.

I enjoy the Mossberg 250C. I'm certainly no shooting connoisseur, so please take my input for what it's worth. I do find the Mossberg 250C slightly lighter than the Remington 597, which allows a total novice like me to be a little more steady if in a standing shooting position. However, our Mossberg 250C has the stock peep sight so I start losing some accuracy after about 25 yards, although by all accounts I've read online it is a relatively accurate rifle so I think it's simply me being unsteady and still trying to dial in my own sighting through the peep sight.

I have been much more accurate at longer ranges with the Remington 597 and the scope it has, but I am even more unsteady with it when standing so I definitely need to at least shoot from a sitting position with the rifle propped on something steady.

Hello and welcome to RFC, I am Tom from Illinois. Why don't you pull up a chair and sit for a while. If you have the time stop on by The Watering Hole and chat for a bit. The first drink is always on the house. Look at the picture of the first post for The Watering Hole and you might understand better about your first free drink. This link below should take you there.
