Hello everyone. My daughter and I are just getting into rimfire rifles. I've been bouncing ideas between semi auto or bolt action. Eventually going to have several rifles in each category but for now I'm going to start with a bolt action. Been looking at the CZ the most, then the Bergara BMR-X and a few others. We don't plan on doing any competitions, just for fun with friends and family. Any other advice you'll recommend before we get started down this path would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Blake

Hello and welcome to RFC, I have made this to just help you get started and more comfortable on RFC. If you have not done so yet, Please tell us a little about yourself. I am Tom from Northern Illinois.

Why don't you pull up a chair and sit for a while. If you have the time stop on by The Watering Hole and chat for a bit. The first drink is always on the house. Look at the picture of the first post for The Watering Hole and you might understand better about your first free drink. This link below should take you there.

If you have read the rules you know that you have to have 30 posts to be able to buy or sell on Rimfire Central marketplace. If you are trying to get your post count up, You might want to check out another link below. You could also purchase your membership.

If you are looking to have a question answered, try to go to the right forum to ask you question. Please don’t ask your questions here in the introduction forum area. Not as many people will see it. It might take a little looking around, but I’m sure that you will find a place to ask your question.

I understand that my post to new member is almost always the same, but I do mean what I type here. If you are lost or are not sure where to go to look for something, you can alway ask and I will do my best to help you. Almost everyone here is very open and willing to help you. It is a very good and caring group of people.

PS, Please make sure that you read the rules and if you have any questions, just asked, almost all any of us would be glad to help you if we can.

Hello, I’m in Houston. What part of Texas are you at? I have several bolt guns and my grandson has a semi-auto. If you are new to guns, a bolt rifle is much easier to clean, tends to be more accurate, and there are a lot of great options. The CZ in any of its variants is pretty accurate for a factory gun with very little fiddling with. All the actions are the same no matter what caliber rimfire you get. There is a ton of aftermarket support for them. Not so much the Bergara. If you want semi-auto I would look at a Ruger. There is a hugh aftermarket of parts for that style .22lr.

CZ makes nice rifles. I bought a left-hand 452 American for my daughter when she got her Distinguished Expert badge at our local juniors club. The American has a western-style stock without that Roman nose butt contour that most of the CZs of that period had. Be aware that you'll need a .17 caliber cleaning rod for it; the bore is just a hair too tight for a standard .22 rod.
If she's still growing, the Savage Mk II is a very solid rifle for the money. It's available in a number of configurations, from a plastic target-style stock with spacers to adjust length of pull, up to very nice looking walnut stocks, laminated wood, thumbhole, you name it, some shaped for iron sights and some with a higher comb for use with a stock, with or without target sights. We had a number of the single-shot target rifles as club guns, and they were rugged, accurate, and reliable. They all have the Savage AccuTrigger. That's the one with the blade safety in the middle of the trigger. It allows a very light, crisp trigger pull that is also very safe. By my guess, nearly half the bolt action rifles made in the USA now use either that same trigger or a license-built copy of it. It's that good.
