This 1st 10/22. 31years old. Bought it shortly after finishing boot camp and AIT. Iwas in the ARNG going to SIU Carbondale. It has the original Simmons 4x32 1022 scope, the 1022 compact stock, BKL rings. I can use the iron sites with scope on the rig. I keep 5 10 rounders with it and 500 CCI Subsonic HP rounds. All the loose stuff zips into a Jansport shaving bag. Then this zips up into the case. I did my own trigger job. Polished sear bearing surfaces to a mirror finish. Installed a trigger springs. She will put 5 in my thumbnail at 50 yards. This is my 2st post here.

Once my kids had left the house (late 90s, college) I picked up a few firearms. With their numerous college bills money was always tight - so I always went the cheap route.

I saved (perhaps) $20 by choosing a Marlin 60 over the 10/22. I also saved another $20 by choosing the Mossberg 500 over the Rem 870. No complaints with either - but I do wish I had opted to spend a few $ more.

Of note: the Marlin still survives. Its "value" doubled by the addition of a Nikon ProScope, way back then.

very nice rifle...do us a favor please, and take some pics of it on a lighter background..the scope and sling almost disappears, with it laying on that black case

and the stainless Compact models are fairly rare, so you may want to resist the urge to irreversibly "upgrade" it..

"Funny enough, when I read this thread the first time I started thinking about putting a scope on a Marlin 60 I have in the closet."

One weekend my youngest came home (with several girlfriends) and they wanted to go shooting - so I set them up with the bare Marlin and a $6 brick of ammo. They were disappointed because they couldn't hit anything (100 yards?). That afternoon I purchased / installed a Nikon Prostaff. The next day they were gleeful.

I believe shes' been a safe queen ever since.
