You can call them but they won't have any information. When Mossberg relocated from New Haven to North Haven in the early 60's the records were lost and all the people with information are at room temperature. They will tell you to call Vic and Cheryl Havelin in Missouri. They run the National Mossberg Collectors Association and vintage Mossberg parts store. Regards, Rick.

This sums it up in short form.

46A rifle with master action bolt & heavy target barrel. Approx 838 of them produced according to available record notes. There have been rifles noted (based on the words of deceased NMCA #427 who did a lot of Mossberg research - just ask Vic or Cheryl) that were roll stamped 46A, 46A w/ hand stamped T, and 46AT. It also had the external adjustable trigger screw in front of the trigger guard. S101 front ramp sight with #4 receiver sight & no barrel sight.

The pictures Steve posted are correct with exception of the bolt & swivels. The bolt was not a cone back style as it was the flatback style. The swivels were not the S116 pin style or the S125 later spring steel clip, they were the earlier spring clip style where the clip went over the top through the center of the swivel lug like the 43's. Regardless of the detail pieces, a very unique & uncommon rifle.

Welcome to Mossy territory Gunpappy. Cherish & enjoy that rifle!

At one point in time I had a No. 46 full beavertail, and discovered that it was actually considered a 46T. But, there is something even more significant about the AT. But... I can't remember what that is.

Matt, after I sent you the No. 46 I somehow, based on someone's information, decided it was a 46AT. Somebody poked their head in here and said that it was a "T", and the "AT" had this or that. And for the life of me I can't remember what he said.

Aha! Here's one! Man, it has attributes from all sorts of different rifles, full beavertail, q/d swivels, late model bolt, front adjustable swivel plate. Even though I've sworn off tube-feds I think I'd like to have one of these.

So the differences between the 46T and AT are the bolt, swivels, trigger adjustment screw and the front swivel plate it seems. Steve, I'm pretty sure it was "Flash92" who had the info about the differences. The fore end of the stock is different as well (both my 46T's have the cut away tip, but I've seen them both ways, so nothing concrete there). Mossberg alphabet strikes again .

And I'll be the first to apologize for forgetting our manners. Welcome to the forum Gunpappy, hopefully we'll get a chance to see this uncommon rifle you have.

Matt

mossy 46at

thanks to everyone for all the info. My 46at is as decribed except for sights. IT does have screw holes for peep, shows no indication of ever having any on it. the holes still have screws in them, plus it has a conventional stair step and leaf rear sight and a beaded post type front sight. SORRY no pictures ,i am computer challenged!!! maybe some time when my son is home i can get him to post some for me Again Thankyou all gunpappy

To correct myself - should've said 35 style stocks - which I have seen both ways V'd & squared front forestock. Seems the most common was V'd though. Wonder if the later models got early squared off stocks? With the first generation master action bolt and "A" suffix all the stocks I've seen have been squared off.

re 46at

dhansen. you are probably right about my rifles sights being changed in the past. What kind of rear sight should it have ,besides the peep sight on reciever? my barrel is dove tail slotted to use some type of rear sight. gunpappy
