Okay, Since there is a post for surveying 44 US Property versions, Here is our "Inventory" opportunity: If you have a Model 44 U.S. (a, b, c, or d) Civilian version; Post a picture with a little story of how it came about and your cost (if you want). :bthumb:

This Mossberg Model 44 U.S.(a) was found by my late grandfather in 1991, standing upright in an 'L' shaped wall beam in an old barn that was converted into a two car garage in Brookfield, CT. It was an absolute mess and no ammo clip. The attached Weaver G4 scope glass was completely whited out and the bolt was in the open position. The barrel was completed plugged up with "gunk" and the stock was black and badly pitted. I convinced him to "trade" the .22 for his 12 gauge side-by-side (that he let me borrow indefinitely). I cleaned it up and purchased some replacement pieces from Haviland Sales and the pics will speak for themselves. This gun has no serial # so I cannot determine the date of mfg but I believe it to be somewhere between 1945-196x as the trigger guard had a manufacture date group stamped in it (1938-1943). SUPER ACCURATE and it was FREE! I have 4 15 round clips (purchased from Haviland Sales). Great plinker and my middle son loves to "borrow" it to squirrel hunt.

Crusty and Rusty 44US-C (I think... hard to read thru the rust).

Complete except sling swivels (has studs/mounts), one butt plate screw, and the green safe/fire dot. Rear sight was "broken" - barrel installed upside down, and frozen tight. Soaked whole thing in CLP for a bit and fixed it right up - detent ball was even there... briefly. :) Shooting buddy gave me the Havlin mount, my oldest daughter tied the sling (its a solomon bar knot).

Under (barely) $90 OTD at a pawn shop for "that old rusty 22 on the wall". Shoots about 3 moa with irons at 25 yards for me and a little less at 100 yards with the scope on it.

I posted these a while back, but here they are again. Please excuse the two US Property marked ones & the 44B since you requested civilian models, but this is the only picture that I currently have. I also recently acquired, but not pictured, another 44US (b), & (d)

Top To Bottom, 44US(D); 44US(c); 44US(b); 44US(a) - US Property; 44US - US Propertry; 44B

Nice collection foxfire... I don't mind any and all Mossberg 44's being posted here, I only labeled the post that way to anyone with a 44 U.S. that does not sport the US Property label can have a place to post their pics.

Now, your (a) has a lighter stock (just like mine does). What is the difference and do you know what kind of wood the stock is made of?

I noticed that each gun in the photo has a green "for sale?" tag.

I want to thank you for the recommendation to go to Haviland Sales (I have purchased products from them before - 4 15rd mags) as it never dawned on me to check with them for a scope mount base. I spoke to Cheryl and told her about Rimfire Central and apparently she is very familiar with the site and she knows you as well. Small world! Again, thank you and I did post updated photos of my (a) with the new scope and mount on it.
