Model 67

I picked this up at a yard sale 25+ years ago for $35(?). It obviously was abused, but the bore is bright. Somebody sanded the beejus out of the stock to the point that the buttplate is oversize, and they still could not remove all the imperfections, putting some ugly caulk in the long split in the stock. The barrel, while not rusty, has several gouges in it. One goes almost 180 degrees around in a spiral, as if someone pulled it out of a pile of junk while twisting it. Oh, the guy who "restored" it applied varnish. Without removing the buttplate or stock screw. Yikes!

It was so ugly I hated looking at it or being seen at the range with it, and it just languished in the back of the safe. But it shoots great, so I decided to take off that ghastly varnish and apply BLO and Oxpho-Blue. It looks a whole lot better, though still ugly.

I guess I could replace the buttplate ... then the stock ... then the barrel ... sure, just like Grampa's axe: we've replaced the handle twice and the head once, but it's still Grampa's axe. I have no intention to put a dime into it--it's a shooter.

I forgot to take before pictures.

This 67 and the Husqvarna (see other post) have reawakened my interest in single shots. Now I'm looking for a Model 67 with peep sights. And maybe a 69. Or a Remington 514 or 33. Or ...
