I am getting set up to make the Ultimate 10/22 style build. I say 10/22 style because none of the gun will have any Ruger parts. I am thinking about using this MOA receiver with the Douglas barrel ( http://www.moaguns.com/rec10_22.html ) . Has anyone used this receiver and combo barrel ?
I would like to have had a Kidd receiver that has the threaded barrel but I do not think you can get the threaded receiver any more.

This looks to be a very good sturdy set up.

You are right about the tang, but the barrel hole has been designed to fit a standard 10/22 barrel shank in addition to being threaded and the rail is not permanent, the receiver should fit any standard rail.

Also, I believe only a KIDD rail will fit a KIDD receiver... So that limits your options there.

Not knocking the KIDD, I still think it's the best and would go KIDD classic over MOA myself. Just making sure the facts are straight :bthumb:

Sub MOA or bust!!!

MOA receiver

I just bought one of the MOA receivers myself...not sure what kind of build I'll be doing, but likely a target rifle. I'm considering the Douglas barrel to take advantage of the threaded receiver, not sure about a stock, trigger or scope yet, but I'm sure it will come together eventually. I've already done a Kidd build with a Kidd receiver/bolt/trigger, Shilen barrel, Stocky's Eliminator stock & Leupold 6.5-20X and it's so accurate it's almost boring. I'll have to see if I can do one better!

AKboater, I am going to order the MPA receiver with the 18" Douglas Barrel combo so they will put the barrel on for me. I already have the Kidd two stage trigger and bolt. I have a Kidd Barrel for my 2008 Target TALO when it comes in this week.
I am going to go with a yellow and Black Thumb hole Richards Target bench stock.
Scope I am not sure of as yet, I have had t4 Mueller 8x32-44 (great scope) but not for sure as of yet.

Just waiting on my tax check to come in and order the receiver and barrel.

MOA and Douglas barrel have that exact Setup!

Jstanfield I have a friend that has one. MOA receiver, Kidd bolt, Kidd trigger, Douglas Barrel, Homemade bench type stock. He had it built by an excellent smith when we worked up in Alaska. It is a tack driver to say the least. I get to shoot it a lot and built the stock for it. I don't know how much you are going to work on it yourself but here are some things to look out for. The smith and we had a devil of a time getting the Kidd guts to go in and out for disassembly and cleaning. Smith fixed that after we found out where things were interfering with fit, tight tolerances or ? we wound up milling a little on the MOA not the Kidd parts. Also the scope screws on top protruded through the receiver and bound up the operation of the bolt. It took us a while, quite frustrated, to figure that out and we didn't have our smith with us he would have known instantly. My compadre went with a Benz chamber and a 20" SS barrel .820 at muzzle. We had trouble with the clips staying in alignment. We were about to take it back to the smith after several hundred frustrating shots where there were a lot of FTFeeds. He was thinking he may have to bolt or weld a spacer/shim to keep the clips in alignment. We tried as many different brands and types of clips as we could. Finally as time progressed it started coming around and you could get a full clip through with no problems. It was then at 90% +- reliability. Later we bought some magazine retention springs (b-37?) and tweaked them and increased reliability. This is mostly a heavy bench gun and he can get by with that reliability with what he shoots it for. I would have one in a minute and was about to order all the parts but we got transferred back down to Tejas and it didn't happen. I am happy to shoot his any chance I get. It likes mid priced target ammo almost as well as the expensive stuff. If I told you how you how accurate it is I would not be believed so I won't. We have other 10/22's that shoot with us and only the pure Kidds come close to the accuracy of this rifle. Shoot bug holes amigo STBE

STBE,
Thanks for the reply, I have kept you're response and filled it away for further reference. MOA people guarantee that it will shoot less than .25" groups at 50 yards. I will be ordering the whole thing as soon as the tax money hits either tomorrow or next Monday supposable.
Richards stock I will order this Friday, I have been eyeing that stock for some time (actually a very long time) but I have always had guns that they did not make the stocks for until this build. I can not wait to get it done and post it in the Ultimate section here. It should compete with my Remington 540X for accuracy I would think.

More particulars

Jstanfield are you going to have Douglas chamber and thread the barrel for you or is it some kind of add on aftermarket barrel? The barrel we had was a blank that the smith chambered, threaded and head spaced or rather positioned. My friend bought a brand new Benz chamber reamer. Chambers of course are very important and the type of chamber is high on that priority list. I first put the barreled action in an old Ruger stock I inletted it so that the tang fit in in a slotted wedge where you can't see it from above the stock. It worked quite well while I built the bench stock for the rifle. It looked like any other old common Ruger until you showed your competition that it could shoot match heads off at 40 yards!. If you get the rifle and it has trouble feeding try the clear Ruger clips for some reason they work best in this one. That was suggested by some others here on RFC that have had problems with other rifles not just MOA. It wears a Weaver 15X scope and occasionally when we want to scare the Annies and Kimbers we put a 24X T Weaver on it and shoot against them. "Only accurate guns are interesting" STBE

STBE, the place that I am buying the MOA receiver from puts the Douglas barrel on and lines everything up. So it should be good to go. They also told me after they get it put together they fire 5 rounds out of it to check accuracy and function.
I do have one clear magazine so we will see how it goes.
