MG42 Dress-Up Kit Question

Recently, I just discovered that such a thing even existed for the Ruger 10/22, and am now considering purchasing one as well. However, after searching the board and finding mention that it's "plasticky" and breaks easily, I'm a little concerned, but still want one nonetheless. It's either this, or a $5000 MG-42 that only fires on semi anyway.

Is it possible to reinforce the plastic? Or even replace some parts of the kit with real MG-42 parts for added realism? I've been looking at parts kits for MG-42s and was wondering if the barrel and stock on the real deal could replace the rest of the kit, leaving only the receiver.

Oh, and if anyone has one they'd like to sell, I'm buying. :D

The most fragile part is the sights. They are pretty much crap, anyway. Don't plan on any bayonet training with one, but I haven't had any trouble with breakage. I use mine in a twin mount with linked BMF Activators (cranks):

I have played around with the idea of selling the twin setup. Since I have the LM7 now, I just never seem to shoot the twins.

If you are interested, let me know. Who knows, you may catch me in the right mood.

You wont be able to use any real MG-42 parts as these stocks are only 2/3 the size of the real MG-42. I have had no problems with breakage as the stocks are pretty well made. As mentioned byCpt_Kirks the sights are the real problem, they are junk! Wont hold a zero and move with every shot. The front sight can be improved by putting a .010 shim under the blade as that stabilizes it some but the rear sight is trash can fodder. I replaced my rear with a 1911 Schmidt Ruben sight and it works much better. I can shoot 2-1/2" groups(slow fire) at 50 and 6" groups at 50 rapid fire. Not a target rifle but fun to rattle the gong with. I purchased the sight on Gunbroker and was an easy installation.

I am trying to keep the looks of the real MG-42 and the AK sights just don't do it.I am in the process of milling out a metal front sight now to replace the plastic front sight assembly, kinda silly but it keeps me busy.I also have a walnut butt about 1/2 done and will replace the plastic stock with the walnut one after I give it an aged look on the finish.Like to have the semi-auto real one but just cant part with 5 grand and would spend many hours reloading 8mm ammo so this toy will have to do. Below is a photo of a MG-42 with drum magazine and AA sights.

Well, like I mentioned above, I am thinking about selling my twins to pay off my credit card. If I sell them, I would include:

2 - Ruger 10/22's with installed MG42 Dress Up Kits
2 - BMF Activators with custom linkage
2 - 30 round Eagle Mags
Custom twin mount that includes tripod, T&E and AA Sights

PM me if interested.
