I have a kidd 10/22 that I want to rescope and I'm not sure which Optika to get?
I have a weaver grand slam with the ebx reticle on it now and I like the scope and the reticle most of the time if lighting conditions are right but that's not always the case...lol
I've been searching for an illuminated scope and I've settled on one of the optika's with the BDC #3 reticle. I like the lighter weight and shorter tube of the 4x20 optika 5 but if the glass is way better on the 6 then maybe it would be worth the extra weight and money for it.
The gun is my plinking / hunting/ ride around the farm in my truck gun.

Anybody have both scopes and can you give me some options on both.
Thank you

I have the Optika 5 in 4-20X50 and a couple of Optika 6 in 4.5-27X50 all with BDC3 illuminated.

For your intended purpose, you've made the right choice - All mine are on range rifles and the clarity of the Optika 5 glass compared to the 6 is very close.

Thanks HJA8. I was a little worried about the reticle choice seeing how I have not personally looked at a BDC3 reticle. I hoping the illuminated dot is about the same.size as the one on my burris XTRII 1-8, it's been great for shooting woodchucks out to the max range for the gun it's on.

Just received my Optima 5 3-15 with Z Plus (non illuminated) was worried the Dot might be too large but it looks fine, an illuminated dot may be in my future.

some of you know I am a Meopta fanboy and have seven of their scopes. I have the optika6 3-18x56 FFP Z plus RD on a very expensive AR15 with a Shilen barrel that will shoot 1/2'' groups if I do my part with match ammo. I absolutely love that scope and reticle, the only reticle I like more is in my optika6 FFP 4.5-27x50 with the MRAD1 and while I don't own any of the optika5 lines, if you think the glass in those is good (which it is) you should look through my Meopta R1s or my ZD those have really amazing glass. they have better glass than my German-built Steiner military scope which costs more.

and gmd1950 I was worried about dot size too when I ordered it and I was also pleasantly surprised. this was a purpose-built precision Ar15 and I didn't want a dot that was too big, I wish one of the big chain stores would start stocking Meopta so you could go and actually look at one before you buy it.

My local shop stocked them for many years but they were slow sellers (Local boys don't go for the good stuff) so they stopped, a shame as they're very good glass.

That reminds me of the time I bought a CZ-452 full stock rifle in .22LR that had been on the dealer's shelf for at least three years. By then their asking price was excellent compared to current MSRP. I asked why such a fine rifle hadn't been sold and his reply was essentially the same as yours. "The locals don't like full stock rifles". That rifle was a sub-MOA shooter that I eventually gave to a granddaughter.

My scope came yesterday and I got it mounted this afternoon. I got it almost sighted in (leaning on the bed of my truck shooting at spinning targets in my back yard....lol)
So far I Love this scope. The cross reticle is a little fine for my 60 year old welders eyes but it will work and when I turn on the illumination it works Great! The glass is Very clear and bright. I can't wait to get it fully sighted in.

very nice, glad to hear you like it! enjoy. and I kind of have the same issue with my two FFP Meopta's one is 3x and one is 4.5 on the bottom end and in FFP the reticles are so small I use the illumination and basically use it as a red dot, but once you get a bit up in the magnification they are very easy to see and I am 59 so I get the old eyes thing lol

really, that's too bad I would love it if somebody stocked them, I bought my first one 10 or 15 years ago. the only info I could find was some talk on a forum saying the R1 1-4x22 K-dot was the poor man's version of a Schmidt & Bender short dot. and it was used in a lot of 3-gun competitions so I figured I would give it a try and have been hooked ever since.

I just bought my eighth and ninth Meopta scopes over the holidays and got a couple of deals on them, bought another optika6 3-18x56 MRad1 RD FFP and an optika6 5-30x56 MRad RD FFP with the 34mm tube and ED glass for $899.99 from B&H photo, I got the 3-18 already and the 5-30 will be here Monday, its been sitting one town away from me for 2 or 3 days, thanks FedEx lol. now I just have to decide does the 5-30 go on the varmint AR15 with 24'' Criterion 223 Wylde bull barrel (prairie dog rifle) or on my AR10 with 22'' Criterion nitride stainless 308 long-range rig? decisions decisions, one of those two gets the 5-30 and the other the 3-18 any thoughts on which way to go lol?

actually, that kind of does help since two of the three are bigger calibers, I was thinking about the 308 AR10 simply because it has the potential of shooting further, but the AR15 was built for precision work that's why I was thinking the extra magnification for that one, but the glass is so good the 3-18 may be good enough for fields of prairie dogs and paper targets. or I just buy another one and put the 3-18 on my other AR10 lol. I have a 4.5-27x50 optika6 on a savage 110 short-action sniper rifle I built with a 24'' barrel and I like the magnification range of that one with it only being 50m objective i got it mounted nice and low on that rifle and its perfect.

how do you like the glass in your 5-30? I am curious as to how much better their ED glass is compared to regular optika6 glass, I have three of their top-of-the-line scopes and am hoping their ED glass is close to as good as their top-end stuff.

here is a pic of the sniper set up:

well, that's good to know, never looked through Nightforce, just hear how good they are. the high-end R1 and ZD line glass gets compared to S&B glass it is that good, I have one german built Steiner scope and the high-end Meopta glass is better.
