It's May!

May Day - Cinco de Mayo - Mother's Day

Hmm, take your mom out shooting some Aguila ammo??

(( Just for this month all targets shot with ANY FLAVOR of Aguila ammo will receive a 10 point bonus! ))

I hope you're all healthy.

It's okay to shoot a pellet gun at 10 yards at the target of your choice (trigger time is trigger time). If you can shoot rimfire, please do. Some of us can't. I'm sure we'll do the best we can under the circumstances.*

Make a note of these, they will be the guide for all future Fun Shoots'
SmallCal.

RFC Fun Shoot; Classes and Rules
This Fun Shoot is for any RF cartridge rifle, to include the following, .22 RF, .22 Mag. , .17 RF.

All targets in each class are shot at 25 yards.

The (old) rules for Class 1 expired 4-30-09 and have been deleted. (This update to C-1 made 7-16 09)

Note that we will use three different classes of rifles for this shoot and from now on and these class rules will apply for all future Fun Shoots. Make a note of them.

(NEW Rules for Class 1 Fun Shoot as of 7-16-`09 SPECIAL ADDENDUM to C1 irons and scoped shoot. PLEASE NOTE, that from this date (04/01/2025) on forward the ammo used in this class is limited in price to $5.00 per box for 50 rounds.

This Class 1 Fun Shoot is reserved for beginners and novice of any age.

Targets will be generous and fairly easy to learn on.

Class 1. Box Stock HUNTING/PLINKING rifles only, NO target rifles allowed. Allowed modifications will be limited to the addition of a scope with variable power settings and shortening of the butt stock for fit to smaller shooters. Scope power will be assigned at the time of the shoot. Usually not more than 9X. Iron sighted rifles will use original sights or replacements like the original. Any rest is allowed except Machine Rest.
These modifications to this Class 1 shoot are implemented to allow older beginners and novice shooters to join in the Fun Shoot without the heavy competition of shooting against target type rifles and highly skilled shooters. Those rifles and shooters will go to Class 2 from now on. If you have questions, PM me direct. SmallCal

PLEASE NOTE, that from this date (04/01/2025) on forward the ammo used in this class is limited in price to $5.00 per box for 50 rounds.

SmallCal

(Unchanged)
Class 2; Modified Hunting/Sporting Rifles. Allowed modifications will be limited to the addition of adjustable scopes with the power setting assigned at each shoot, adjustable receiver sights, globe front sights, trigger modifications/replacement to lighten weight of pull but NO low end limit but must be safe. Barrel replacement of any design that doesn`t make your rifle exceed the weight limit of 10.5 lb. total weight. Stock modifications or replacement stocks that resemble thumbhole or sporting stocks which have a convex forend profile and horizontal width no greater than 2 inches wide are allowed.
If your Modified Sporting Rifle exceeds any one or more of the above limits, it will be in the higher Class 3 group.

(Unchanged)
Class 3; All of those rifles that were/are designed for the strict purpose of Bench Rest Shooting with unlimited modifications and all of those rifles that exceed any limits in the Modified Hunting/Sporting Rifle class.
This class can be divided into two sub classes of those bench rifles with scopes (unlimited power) and those with iron sights (unlimited type). This sight division will allow all of the super race guns to be included here.

If you are unsure of the class you should be in, go to the next higher class and state that on your score/target postings.
I do know that there will be some rifles that are so close to fitting into more than one category that its hard to tell where they should go. If in question, go up a class.

Post score as shown here.

Yes, I know I am out of control at this time in my life, but it has surely been a good ride. Went to the range Yesterday and because I had printed out a April target I did not want it go to waste, but I was unable to shoot that target in April, so I shot it yesterday. Because I am a month late I thought I would penalize myself and shoot it twice and try for a perfect target, but I failed. I am shooting $4 Norma Tac 22 at this time with the rig setup shown below. I do like this target
as there is a little more room for error. The dimes official Class 2 scoped target have always given me a tough time and this time was no exception as I failed to get a perfect score by cutting a line or two. I did print out the Class 3 target as
at age 87 I am experienced...right? Here again OK, but not a perfect score. You guys can do the scoring, but I was
cutting a few lines, but at least no zeros. You may laugh at my front rest, but I built this many years ago before I purchased a very heavy front rest. Now at my age this one is much easier for me to carry as it is light. Has it affected my shooting? Probably not. Still fun to keep shooting and at my age I am not ready to buy a Bergara or Anschutz or
something else that is considered a factory rifle at under $1500. My idea of a factory rifle is a CZ or some other rifle under $600-$750. My Savage cost me $300 12-14 years ago and that included a 3-9 power scope. Hope you guys do some better shooting than I did in May. Hope to be out shooting again in June.

Thanks for the compliment Bret. I try, but don't always get the results I want. Your shooting is much better than mine normally. I would love to see how that Izhmash works. Looks like some kind of bolt action without a regular bolt. I like the way you try out Coast to Coast rifles and other types that I consider as factory rifles for fun shoots like this one. Eley Team is one step down from Eley Match and if you are lucky with the lot it can be as good or even better than Match.

The Izhmash 7-2 is a strait pull action rifle, very unique rifle.
Bough the rifle in like 2004 or so, and the model I have is the hunting version.
And I have converted mine into a target mod. with a new home made stock and
some trigger work, has a 8 oz pull and has a match chamber.
But here is a Norwegian girl shooting the biathlon version to give you an example of how they operate.

Bret, thanks for the video showing how the Izhmash action works. Looks to me like it might be actually easier to operate than a regular bolt action. If you made that stock on yours from a blank of wood you did a great job. It sure looks "classy" to me. Hopefully we will see more targets shot with that rifle.

:
O.K., I have a question. I think I would qualify for Novice/Hunter/Plinking: Older, (85) brand new to this or any sort of target shooting. Garden variety guns, most not modified much.
I have a 10-22 that I would like to use, but it is not really Class 1 Box Stock, and should be shot in Class 2 Modified. Most of the mods have been done over time "just to see". VQ target Hammer, which lowered the trigger pull from terrible to ~2 3/4 lbs. A "Q'd" barrel, radiused bolt and Aluminum tape bedding. At this point, I have a Red Dot sight on it. With all that, I think it is definitely Class 2, and not Irons. Do I have it right? Some time ago, I found a brick of Blazer LR...10 boxes for $34.95. I have some Aguila, too. It sounds like I'm set?
