Factory, 25 yards
Screen Name: Shawn Carlock
Rifle: CZ 457 Varmint, Weaver T36, Ammo: Eley Tennex
Score: 2450
Harris 6-9" Bipod

Great target, looks like Pipes1 and I have someone to chase.

Care to share your secrets?

Hopefully we will have some more shooters post targets this month.

Unlimited 25 yards
Appalachian
CZ 452 American 22LR, MDT chassis
Yo Dave trigger spring and shim
Lapua Center-X
Athlon Midas Tac 6-24
Harris bipod, Protektor rear
52*F, 7-9 MPH from my 7:00, cloudy
Score 2450
I used a plug on the three that were close.

I had to blow up my copy of a copy target to get it to the right size. I’m going to get the ARA Unlimited targets soon anyway.

This is the first time shooting with the chassis. The length of pull is long with this particular stock. I’m going to try to find something shorter that will ride a bag and or move the scope back some.

ARA Unlimited targets will work fine.

You have a skill saw around there somewhere don't you. If not bring your stock over and we can shorten it in a hurry, you really don't need the cut to be squared up do you?

Thanks.
That stock is too expensive to cut up. 😆
If anything It'll end up on an AR-10. If I
can't find a shorter stock I'll put it back in a Pro Varmint stock. I have a few factory rifles to try if I can get time.

Hi Sg1911 and glad to see another shooter join the group. I am sure that Chuck, the admin, will respond.

My understanding of the rules would certainly allow your 77/22 in the "unlimited" class as it is wide open to everything that doesn't fit the rules for "factory". We don't seem to have any shooters with full custom benchrest rigs yet but would be nice to build the unlimited class with a variety. I started out listing as unlimited as I had purchased a new front rest and it was set up with a 3" bag so attached a bag rider to my stock, making it modified and therefore unlimited class. After my smaller bag came in I was able to remove the bag rider and switch to factory class.

This group seems to be all about having fun so happy to have you on board.

Sure do, prints on 8.5x11 paper, best to print on a card stock (heavy weigh paper). Click on the target image and tell your computer to download it, then set your printer at 100% and print. Check the measurement of the largest scoring ring. It should measure right at 1 in. Or you could take a copy of the file to someplace and have it printed. And another OR if you have any ARA Unlimited targets you could use those.

Happy shooting

What do you think gents?

Today snuck off to the range, actually my wife told me to leave for a little while. Think I was getting on her nerves.

Grabbed the CZ 457 I have been using here. Shot some targets, 4 actually. Came home and scored them. Would like your thoughts on the scoring. The best one scored 2250. Look the target over to make sure I am not giving myself extra points. This is why I like using the target scorning program I have, only kicker is the targets have to be printed in blue for the program to work. I have a B&W laser printer only. So give me your thoughts. Second photo is my scoring plug, should I think about getting another one.

Nice target, Chuck.

Still new to the scoring myself and always question if I am doing it right.

Just as an exercise, I printed your target and verified outer lines to be at 1". Then used an "Eagle Eye" gage to look at the closer ones since a printed image won't work with an actual plug gage. To my eyes number 14 was the only one close and with the gage shows in.

Kind of a fun experiment.

Well you can see how high tech my scoring gage is.

After measuring a bunch of scoring gauges for my ranges monthly USBR match we found this one to be the only one that actually measured .224.

https://www.killoughshootingsports.com/ara-rimfire-competition/93-ara-scoring-plug.html
Its accuracy is stated to be .224 plus or minus .0005.
We measured 5 of them, and all of them were .224 on the button.

We purchased 50 of them to hand out.

The Hughes Precision wasn't one of them, so I can't comment on its accuracy.

Smooth

Im going to post up all of the devices we have tried, and how we use them to score our matches this coming week on this thread.
It will include comments on other gauges, the Eagle Eye, and different magnifying glasses.
Stay tuned.

Big difference between 25 and 50 yards!

I took the target out to 50 yards getting some practice for an ARA club match, on Wednesday. (Only the second time I have shot in a match.) I will be shooting the easier "Factory" target so I figured practice on this one will get me ready.

Factory, 50 yards
Screen Name: Pipes1 Name: Robert
Rifle: CZ 457 Varmint Precision Chassis, Vortex Strike Eagle 5-25x56, Ammo: SK Rifle Match, Score: 1625
SEB Mini front rest, Protektor rear bag.
Weather: Mild winds and 70 degrees.

This photo shows what many would call a "10" especially if the scorer didn't have a 5X or higher magnifier with a light shinny on it to eliminate shadows.
Image
Tap to blow up.

Here it is without a shadow.
Now maybe its a "10", or maybe not.

Image
Tap to blowup. Then hold down control and hit the plus button to blow it up even more.
You now will start to see a little tiny bit of white between the plug and the "10" ring.

However with the Killoughs plug I recommended it post #29 you can see a reflection that shows the "10" ring line fully completed.
That reflection proves the this shot is not a"10" because if the plug was touching the "10" green ring it would not be complete in the reflection.
Image
I you look at the bottom of the reflection on the plugs cylinder (not the target surface) you can see just the tiniest bit of white.

Conclusion:
Because of the polished cylinder on the plug along with the fact that it measurers exactly .224 of an inch, this it the plug to have. :)

My next post will show the ARA recommended magnifier that makes seeing both the reflection and any bit of white/green easy to see using a 10x circular lighted (no shadows) magnifier.

Smooth.

The magnifier I'll be showing you was first brought to my attention by fellow RFC member doclu60.

I have been waiting for you to weigh in on this topic. I will get around to measuring my plug tomorrow. I am interested in how it measures.

When are you to jump in on this match?

Have been working on learning the ways of the bipod. I thinking I am liking it.

Thank for your help in the past.

Because of my limited quantity of match level ammo, I can't really shoot these RFC contests at this time.

If I did shoot it, it would have to be for testing ammo/technique.
Therefore it would have to be at 50yds, and the ARA target doesn't really relate directly to the USBR target.

However I do enjoy checking out all of the members results, trials, and tribulations. :)

I can understand the ammo reason.

If I did shoot it, it would have to be for testing ammo/technique.

So your a USBR type of fellow? I have shot in a few ARA matches so that is what I am fimilar with. No USBR matches around here. The few ARA matches I have shot in convinced me I was not up to that task. But I do enjoy this type of shooting game.

However I do enjoy checking out all of the members results, trials, and tribulations. :)

Please do, I welcome your input, and I hope others do also.

This has turned out to be a great training match as I just completed my second club match and finished first in both. (A little intimidating since I had never shot in competition before.)

Using the "unlimited" target in this RFC match really helped when going to 50 yards with the "factory" target. (Larger rings on the factory target but twice the distance.)

This is my best target for the day and just missed 2500!

First time entering a match like this. Shot on a bench, just liked the pics in the grass better.

Factory: 25 yards
TTS22
457 MTR, SK reduced, 1825
Shot off bipod and rear sand bag

Good first target, in fact great first target. So since you did not shoot a 2500 on your first target, your punishment is a mandatory target each month until you do. Then you have to do the same at 50 yds.

Good looking rifle.

What is SK reduced?
