I have got a 8x32x42mm AO scope that I want to put on my 783 .22 mag. What kind of mounts do I need to buy? If anyone can help , please PM me.

Thanks,
Richard

Scope Mounts for a 783

Hello!

You don't need scope mounts at all. Just get some high 1" scope rings that are designed to fit a 3/8" grooved reciever and mount the rings directly on the gun. Mount the bottom half of the rings first, then set your scope in the "cradle" formed by the bottoms. Adjust the scope for proper eye relief and level, then install the ring tops. Don't crank down too tight on the ring screws, tighten just enough to hold the scope securely. Too much tightening will damage your scope. Once mounted, bore sight your scope and you are ready for the range.

Good luck!

Yes, you are looking for 3/8th dovetail rings. They are sometimes called "tip-off," sometimes called "rimfire" or "airgun" rings. There are a lot to choose from.

I prefer high rings for long-range hunting because my eye lines up with the scope better, and the bullet's trajectory crosses the scope's line of sight at a more useful distance. My favorite brand of rings for tip-off is Millet Angle-loc rings which are windage adjustable. If you like to keep things simpler, get some vertical-split rings for 3/8ths dovetail. I really like Weaver "top mount" rings, but they are trickier to set up at first.

I have low rings which allowed the rear sight to be folded down to clear the objective.
