Well folks , here is a little project I started in order to defeat winter boredom. Problem is I finished too soon! Winter is a long ways from being over.

This rifle started life as a CZ452 Super Exclusive. I had a crazy idea to make the world's longest Full stock Maple CZ452. So I did! Well , maybe it isn't the longest , I don't really know for sure.
The blank I used was one of several that my uncle Woody(rip) saved many years ago(50 or so) from a barn being torn down if I remember correctly. He gave 3 of these to my dad and he never came upon the right project to use them on. Dad gave these blanks to me many years ago and I am just now getting around to using them. In this picture the bottom rifle and blank in their original form before I began the project.

I don't have any machines to help out so any stock build I do is all done using only hand tools. The 29" barrel channel was a chore to do. I am not a professional, just a hobbyist/hack at best. But I do enjoy building one every now and then. I do use a band saw to cut out the general form of the stock. Here it is after I cut it to form.

Now the hard stuff begins. It was then time to shape a little and begin the inletting of the receiver and barrel.

I didn't want to finish it in the white. I wanted to accomplish a golden tone similar to some of Brownings Maple shotguns. So I tried some ideas ahead of the finish sanding. I found that Restor-a-Finish in Golden Oak gave me as close as I was going to get to the desired color.

Once finish sanding and proper tone was achieved it was time for a tru-oil finish! Many coats to go actually but I will get to those later. Here is a picture of it with a CZ452FS in 17hmr to give you a size and color comparison.

This rifle was a squirrel getter and hopefully will still be , just with my own personal added touch. Here is a pic of it in original form after a successful hunt. Notice the length of this rifle. It is the full length of my tailgate. (head shots blotted out for our more sensitive viewers! 😎
