Well folks , here is a little project I started in order to defeat winter boredom. Problem is I finished too soon! Winter is a long ways from being over.

This rifle started life as a CZ452 Super Exclusive. I had a crazy idea to make the world's longest Full stock Maple CZ452. So I did! Well , maybe it isn't the longest , I don't really know for sure.
The blank I used was one of several that my uncle Woody(rip) saved many years ago(50 or so) from a barn being torn down if I remember correctly. He gave 3 of these to my dad and he never came upon the right project to use them on. Dad gave these blanks to me many years ago and I am just now getting around to using them. In this picture the bottom rifle and blank in their original form before I began the project.

I don't have any machines to help out so any stock build I do is all done using only hand tools. The 29" barrel channel was a chore to do. I am not a professional, just a hobbyist/hack at best. But I do enjoy building one every now and then. I do use a band saw to cut out the general form of the stock. Here it is after I cut it to form.

Now the hard stuff begins. It was then time to shape a little and begin the inletting of the receiver and barrel.

Here is a better pic of the inletting and form after lots of hours.

I didn't want to finish it in the white. I wanted to accomplish a golden tone similar to some of Brownings Maple shotguns. So I tried some ideas ahead of the finish sanding. I found that Restor-a-Finish in Golden Oak gave me as close as I was going to get to the desired color.
Image

Once finish sanding and proper tone was achieved it was time for a tru-oil finish! Many coats to go actually but I will get to those later. Here is a picture of it with a CZ452FS in 17hmr to give you a size and color comparison.

This rifle was a squirrel getter and hopefully will still be , just with my own personal added touch. Here is a pic of it in original form after a successful hunt. Notice the length of this rifle. It is the full length of my tailgate. (head shots blotted out for our more sensitive viewers! 😎

Thanks for stopping in to check out my crazy creation!

I like it a lot, heckuva job with a wicked piece of timber…

If I counted and read correctly you had 3 blanks, now minus 1?

So you could (if you felt like it) make me a stock for my 452 American. I mean if you’re not sure what to do with them and taking suggestions lol!!

Thank you so much! You did count correctly and I am honored that someone would want to own one of my projects. I make only lfor myself and rarely at all. If I had a duplicator and machines to help knock down the amount of hours it takes I would give it a try. But unfortunately working with hand tools just takes way too long. 55 hours in this one and it still has multiple coats to gonat a later time.
Thank you again for the compliments.

Thank you sir!
Took 55hrs and still a good ways to finish off the coats of finish. Definitely not a professional and likely not good enough to even be considered a hack. 😆 🤣 Good lumber covers up for my shortcomings.
Thank you so much again! Really glad you approve of the style.

Thank you sir!
I love that the boards came from my uncle. I used to hunt his property and sit on his front porch and swap stories. If I remember correctly these were boards in the floor of the barn. They were cut fairly thick for heavy equipment. He noticed the figure and saved them to give to my dad.

Thank you sir!
Yes that figure makes it tricky to keep smooth. Best advise is once you get to the stage where sandpaper is used. , to always use a sanding block as much as possible. That helps keep it even. This was my first time working with maple , it is much harder than walnut.
