Magazine drop after each shot

Purchased new Smith and Wesson 41, two factory and one online purchased magazines. Went to range for first time with them and after each shot, the magazine would drop as if release button was pushed and the firearm would not fire until I manually pushed the magazine back upward. Thought maybe the exposed spring where the release clip catch goes into magazine to hold it in the magazine well and after each shot, a round would move upward causing the spring to catch the magazine release clip to drop the magazine. Waiting on Smith and Wesson to return email, will call tomorrow.

So disheartening that S&W quality has diminished.
New magazine dimensions should be checked.

Even the once great Mercedes SUV's quality has dropped
as reported in Consumers Report recently.

Do they have the same bean counters
running the manufacturing/engineering department?

All magazines do the same thing? You only wrote 'the magazine'.

In instances like this it might be a good idea to automatically insert a "boilerplate" response that bashes Smith and Wessons quality control. That would eliminate the need for multiple replies that basically do the same thing. The OP didn't say if all the magazines do the same thing which could be a major clue in figuring out what is happening with the pistol. Also noteworthy is the fact the OP only has one post to his record. Seems odd, but who knows. Perhaps a good idea would be to take the pistol back to where he bought it and ask someone there to look at the pistol to see if they detect a problem with it or the "magazine" or even all the magazines he has. Maybe they have another magazine to try in the pistol. Seems to me there are several things that can be checked before resorting to bashing S&W and sending the pistol back to them like how is the magazine locking up in the pistol? Is it a good solid lockup or weak to non-existent? Problems like this generally don't involve rocket science.
