Since the Kimber collecting community is actually pretty small and many of us know each other, I thought I'd take a flyer on trying to locate a specific 82 with a distinctive serial number, 13. My good friend Vertfish says I have a nice group of stray dogs, basically factory 82 rimfires that are different from the norm. This could be one of those.
The back story is this. Appx 10 years ago I bought the Kimber 82 in .22lr pictured below at the Big Reno Gunshow. If you expand the pic or have a good computer screen you can make out the serial number, which is 13. There's kind of an interesting story on the rifle itself, but that's for another post. Subsequent to that purchase, as we all do, I was just patrolling through the various online dealer listings and found a dealer in Connecticut that was selling out noted gun writer Jim Carmichael's small collection of Kimbers. Mr. Carmichael had a reserved Kimber number of 13. In his ad, the dealer had a Classic 82 in .22lr, with a pretty nice stock on it and the serial #13. I immediately called him to buy the gun and he said he'd sold it the week prior and just hadn't updated his ad yet. So I assumed it was gone and moved on to chasing other Kimbers.
A couple of weeks ago another rifle from that group, an 84, showed up on GunBroker and I contacted the seller on the off chance that he might know the whereabouts of the 82 that I missed. He didn't know but he said he did have the original order receipt for the rifle I'm looking for which mentioned an upgraded stock.
So there you are, I'm looking for a nice wooded 82 Classic with serial #13 to go with the one I already have. I'm thinking they would make a nice pair of stray dogs.
