Looking For a Special Kimber

Since the Kimber collecting community is actually pretty small and many of us know each other, I thought I'd take a flyer on trying to locate a specific 82 with a distinctive serial number, 13. My good friend Vertfish says I have a nice group of stray dogs, basically factory 82 rimfires that are different from the norm. This could be one of those.
The back story is this. Appx 10 years ago I bought the Kimber 82 in .22lr pictured below at the Big Reno Gunshow. If you expand the pic or have a good computer screen you can make out the serial number, which is 13. There's kind of an interesting story on the rifle itself, but that's for another post. Subsequent to that purchase, as we all do, I was just patrolling through the various online dealer listings and found a dealer in Connecticut that was selling out noted gun writer Jim Carmichael's small collection of Kimbers. Mr. Carmichael had a reserved Kimber number of 13. In his ad, the dealer had a Classic 82 in .22lr, with a pretty nice stock on it and the serial #13. I immediately called him to buy the gun and he said he'd sold it the week prior and just hadn't updated his ad yet. So I assumed it was gone and moved on to chasing other Kimbers.
A couple of weeks ago another rifle from that group, an 84, showed up on GunBroker and I contacted the seller on the off chance that he might know the whereabouts of the 82 that I missed. He didn't know but he said he did have the original order receipt for the rifle I'm looking for which mentioned an upgraded stock.
So there you are, I'm looking for a nice wooded 82 Classic with serial #13 to go with the one I already have. I'm thinking they would make a nice pair of stray dogs.

I think the guy in Connecticut used to own Connecticut Gun Exchange in Monroe, CT. He was a Kimber dealer back in the 90’s. Very heavy set guy, and not very friendly. At his weight I’d be surprised if he was still alive.

You know I’m old. I have breathed in a lot a bad chemical’s over the years. My reading comprehension skills were poor to start with. I’m reading the story and. I think you have that rifle your looking for right there in the picture. I don’t think there are two.

I dunno Frank, I’m thinking Sage is correct. I remember the Carmichael guns and I remember the Classic pic. As I recall, the Carmichael 13 Classic had standard panel checkering, lighter wood and was a “Nice A**, No Tits“ gun. It had a standard smooth bolt. Sage’s gun has a checkered bolt and a continuous dark grain through the forearm. It reminds me of a Super America that had too much fiddleback, so Greg Warne had Dennis Smith cut the cheek piece out of it. Normally a gun like that would get an ebony tip and would be designated as a Custom Classic. Who knows why it stayed a Classic and got Super America checkering And a checkered bolt. My suspicion is that an employee took special interest in it and a deal was struck with Warne. Another in the long list of stray dogs that Sage has taken in to his kennel. I also think WATCHADDIC had his hands on some or all of those Carmichael 13 guns.

Ya know..... now that I think about this a little more, I am pretty sure that WATCHY owned that Carmichael 13 Classic gun and offered it to me for sale several months ago. I don't think he sent me any pics of, he just described it and I passed not knowing Sage was looking for it not really looking for an un upgraded Classic. WATCHY gave me a great deal on an S gun, so I snagged it with my limited financial resources. Don't tell Sage, or he will be pissed!

We’ll there you go. Years ago I was at an NRA convention and had a chance to meet Tom Knap and Ted Nugent among others. I went into the food area and got a burger. I sat down at a picnic style table and started to eat. There were two gents accross from me chatting about a gun. ( I hadn’t really looked at them). I heard one of them say something about maybe writing an article about the gun. I looked up and blurted out “ arnt you Jim Carmichael!?” We started a chat and I was telling him how much I loved his writing. The other fella said. “ not that you care but I’m Melvin Forbes btw”. Lol. I did not know him at the time.

I met Jim Carmichael at the Reno NRA convention forever ago. Nice guy to visit with. It was fun to just stand around and see so many firearms personalities just walking around.
