After doing an online search for any information regarding the allegedly pending Leupold VX Freedom 6-18x40 AO scope and finding nothing, I decided to go to the horse's mouth. I went to the Leupold website and via their Contact Us link I sent the following and received a prompt reply:

Douglas, I would keep your eyes peeled at SHOT Show 2019 for new scope models!

Sincerely, Baer

When, oh, when might we see a new VX Freedom 6-18x40 AO (or something
very similar) to replace the fantastic and much missed VX-2 version???

The response would seem to indicate that such a scope is in the wings (or am I being overly optimistic?) The 2019 SHOT show is scheduled for late January so maybe we won't have to wait TOO long to find out.

Good job Doug sir :bthumb: in the past manufactures would keep quiet and not let the cat out of the bag so they had something new to present at the show. Try that with any pistol or rifle maker...it's top secret until then...that also includes any brand new cartridge and new style rifle for that cartridge. Case in point the Savage B-mag IIRC they worked on that for over two years and it was bought out only weeks before the Shot Show.

I was so excited to see and do as much research on this new round and rifle and what is was going to look like. I had visions of grand jour I was hoping for a super magnum cartridge in a rifle to top off my collection of 17hmr and 22mag rifles I already had:

My Savage Classic 93 22mag and 17hmr in front.

What a beautiful dream...but it did not come out that way. :(

Anyway good job and I will be looking forward to see what reticles they offer...I hope they bring back the LRV :D

Let's hope they don't pickup the same bad habits as Tikka and their new rimfires

Doug: I agree that the Leupold 18x variable scopes hit a sweet spot. They are nicely compact, don't overwhelm rimfire sporters in size, and have that o-so-clear glass at full magnification that we have all come to expect from Leupold. I go back and forth whether the Leupold 18x or the (apparently defunct) Weaver V24 is my favorite. Actually, I have you to credit for turning me on to Leupold's offerings, as I first bought one for that Cooper you sold me. I am grateful. My wallet? Not so much. :D:D:D:eek::eek::cool:

LOL have an older Var X III in 4.5-14 sitting on the self at home. Just doesn't fit a niche where I would use it at this point. Used to be my 300 scope for elk but haven't chased elk in a few years now. So there it sits.:(

In Fact I would guess that 80% of the scopes on rifles I own are 6x18, Deer rifles but mostly vermin and rimfire rifles. 22LR-7mm Ackley. I do have the 2 6x24's on long range rifles. Only place I use 2x or 4x is on hunting handguns. ;)
