Centerfire Sleeper

Most of us rimfire shooters venture out to centerfire now and then. It's passe' to do the usual 223 diversion so the classic shooter opts for historically important cartridges like 222, 218 Bee and most often, the wonderful 22 Hornet. PeteC, your KoO Classic is a wonderful example of KoO's first foray into the centerfire world. The Warne's knew that the Hornet lent itself to use of the same basic action employed for rimfire, so it was a great business decision to offer 22 Hornets. The first actions used the "dish bolt" handles and possibly round tangs fitted to the stocks. I didn't check before starting this message to see if yours had a bolt release; some didn't and relied on just letting the bolt pass over a depressed trigger sear when trigger pressure was applied.

OK, tell us more about what you've done with this fine rifle since your original post.

Thanks for the comments on my post. I haven't done anythin with the rifle yet. I posted to make sure that I had the rifle's fact correct.

The Kimber rifles are new to me. i statred my collection a little over 18 months ago and I think I have my last one being delivered tomorrow (lol).

I am attaching a picture of my Hornets to this post, the one coming tomorrow is also a Hornet. The rifle to the left is a 17 Hornet and the other 4 are 22 Hornets.

As time permits I plan to post each rifle with a description to make sure that I have them described correctly. I have not shot any of these rifles but plan to shoot some of them. Other than test firing some may not have been fired.

Hopefully you will be able to read the tags on the rifles for a short description.

Only a single Kimber Hornet here but they are awfully nice rifles. Mines a fairly plain Cascade but an earlier one, bolt release and dished bolt handle. Mines also been shot over the last 35+ years. You seem to take your collecting pretty seriously. An pretty nice rack of Kimbers.

 

I owned an early Kimber Hornet. Kimber got a lot of complaints on case head separations. I found that even with mind loads my case life was not the best.
