This ones just sort of a piece of this, and a piece of that. Most of my Ulti is in there somewhere.
I had read a lot about the GM heavy taper, and wanted to try one out.
As luck would have it the heavy taper barrel and the S&K stock became available at almost the same time. A plan was formed.
I had intended to use a Que bolt for this build. My teenage sons found the bolts Que did for me on my work bench and decided to put them in their guns:eek:
Oh well.... can't say as I blame them. Guess I'll send their bolts to Que to get done.

Like I said, I had done a bunch of reading on the heavy taper, one of the things that stood out to me was the success Vincent is having with his bedding method. I guess the fact that it was done on more than one rifle, with very good results made me want to give it a try. So I used his method. I have to admit I was worried after I did the action, it's very tight and at first I thought I had stuck them together. It did come apart thank goodness.

I took the rifle to the range and fired a few hundred rounds. I was just messing around but couldn't help but notice how accurate it seemed. I broke out the wolf and shot a few groups. Here's a photo of the first target.

I'm thinking this one might get in a game or two, what do you guys think?

Not sure what was going on but RFC had some serious lag awhile ago, seems better now.

I agree these superstocks are just so much better looking IMO.

Ya, yer gonna have to get a Que bolt in there to clean up that mess.
Get on those boys of yours and tell them to cough one up. Sould see better groups then.

p.s. Oh! and don't be afraid to try some premium ammo.. Might be suprised.
The first two I sent to Que, total turnaround time was 7 days, I think I'll just let those boys go and send Que two more bolts. The boys were good enough to leave the stock ones on the bench. :D

HAHA guess I should clarify. "Junkyard Dog" is a term we use when something is jury rigged, or fixed with whatever is at hand. That's what I thought of when I finished this with the parts I had on hand. I don't have a big pile of 10/22 parts wish I did.

Very Nice!!

Glad the bedding is working out.

If the barrel is new it should shoot better as it gets worn in.
Thanks, I'm glad you shared your method. It's a new barrel. I followed GM's break-in instructions, 10 shots and clean, repeat 10 times. How do you break-in a barrel?

It's interesting that you bring up the Moly Fusion treatment. I read the thread the other day and was considering using it. Is it hard to apply?

BigSky
Not at all. I heat the barrel until it is just a bit too warm to hold. Then apply it to the bore. Let it sit until it is cool. Wipe out the bore and do it again.

Thanks guys,

Skunk, that was shot at 25 yards.

Chromie, I'm going to try to get this in the eight ball club today, if the wind stays down. Figure I had better try now, because as soon as it drys up I'm going to be stuck in the tractor seeding wheat.

Thanks OpsMgr, they were, just not quite small enough. :( Missed it by about the thickness of the paper the target is printed on. Mother nature only saw fit to let me shoot for an hour. Be a nice day if the wind didn't blow! Going to have to start going at daybreak.

Good shooting - You will make it soon. :bthumb: What ammo did you use?

Daybreak and sundown are my preferred times for shooting really tight groups.

That's a great target, it's plain to see you got the ''right stuff''. You'll make it. One tip.... I found that shooting in the ''still of the day'', 30 minutes before sunset or after sunrise, gave me the break I needed. When shootin' 1/2 MOA ( even at 25 yards ) every little puff of wind matters. Good luck! :gun4: :crossbone RH

I think you guys are correct, it's going to have to be still. I'll give it a go Saturday morning.

I shot that target with Wolf MT. Really the only good ammo I've tried in this one. I've got some RWS and some SK. Might have to give them a try. Any of you guys use Wolf ME? thought about trying some but don't hear much about it.

WME dosen't shoot any better than WMT for me but as Chromie posted that can depend on the lot. I've only had one bad lot of WMT and thankfully is was only a few boxes...

Guess I'll stay with the MT until I get some that won't shoot. I've had three lots of Wolf. The lot I have now is: 011 45/2 003 3 ~ 165 44/2 304 4 also shot well. Not sure if knowing the lot # will help anyone out, but couldn't hurt.
