Also, most that do the free thing won't renew if it means cash coming out of their pocket. You know, the reality thing. They will spend $50.00 for a bad dinner at some restaurant but won't shell out a penny to preserve their freedom. Another sad but true. :(

I have been an NRA member for some time. Now my wife and kids are as well. Power in numbers!!!

If you don't want the phone calls for help/money set your account up online at NRA.org and change your preferences to not allow contact.

I hope this promo is successful for NRA. I've been a member since about 1970. I don't always agree with their position on everything, but they are the best single defender of our gun rights that we have. They are like any other organization, if you ever send them an extra donation above your membership fees, they will send you pleas for contributions like crazy. However, you you don't donate above your member ship fee, they will soon curb the mailings asking for donations.

Over and over again, the phone number to NRA has been published here to stop all phone and mail correspondence. I haven't had a call in years, and if I get something in the mail, it goes in the trash. Simple and nor frustrating to me.

#13 ·
Even if people don't agree with everything the NRA does they are fighting for your rights, no one else is.

Check my thread about New Zealand's Evil gun reclassification and see what happens in other countrys to law abiding responsible firearm owners when government and police have free reign, might want to have a look at what happened in the UK and Australia.

Best wishes and safe shooting.

i have a paid membership. i have NEVER recieved a call not one. the only thing to ever come in the mail was my card. period. i bought to $10 associate membership. all the "wrong" mail/calls is is easy to fix if you take the time to do so.

I do have mixed emotions about the NRA but they are about the only strong voice gunowners have.
Hey, nobody is perfect! :D But I can tell you for a fact if it wasn't for the NRA our sport wouldn't be what it is today. I mean really, every time something comes on the news about the anti's not getting what they want who do they blame???? Here's a hint.....NRA

This will probably come out all wrong, but...wth. It's just my opinion.

Just like the DEA has no interest in drug problems ever going away, the NRA is out of business if the threat, real or perceived, of "impending gun-ban legislation" ever disappears. Which makes me wonder how hard they really fight to accomplish that.

Wayne LaPierre and his antics have probably driven away more members than will sign up for free. He needs to go. Just like an old time career politician, he is too entrenched in the circles of Washington. New blood is needed.

This is just PART of what the NRA does, in fact they only got into it because they were forced. For many many years they had nothing to do with gun control.

They have many functions having to do with running matches, education, information and such. They were doing this long before they got into this business and they STILL DO!

I think you are being very cynical:(

#24 ·
Sorry, but that's the way I feel. In the '70s, I watched the American Rifleman devolve from a pretty good magazine, mostly about guns, to basically a solicitation rag, mostly about politics.

I'm always cynical--somebody's gotta be.

The N.R.A. has been forced into the political situation. Befor the liberals began thier campaign against the shooting sports, the N.R.A. concerened itself with shooting sports and safety but when our gun rights began to erode (1968) thier job had to move to politics to protect the gun owners and the shooting sports themselves. The magazine is not the reason I'm a member, I'm in it for the fight. If you're not a member, you're not in the fight, and you'll be just as guilty as the antigunners if they succeed in destroying the second amendment.

I have never received a call. I get very few mailings. I have a paid membership and my wife got a freebee. The NRA is the loudest voice in D.C. when it comes to protecting our rights. The bigger the membership number, the louder the voice. NRA members usually vote.

I'm curious as to what Chuck Schumer, Diane Feinstein, Ted Kennedy, Nancy Pelosi, and George Soros just to name a few think about the NRA? Maybe some of you firearm owners would be better off if you had them watching your back instead of the NRA. All I know or believe is that if you own firearms and you don't belong to some pro 2A organization you are just part of the problem, not part of the solution. It burns me up when someone starts bad mouthing organizations like the NRA and come to find out the firearm owning trash talker doesn't belong to any pro 2A organizations.

marines tell it like it is, have been a member since 1987 have been to several countries where only thugs and the government have firearms, guess who is in control of your destiny, in those countrys, and guess what your going to do about it, no brainer, nothing you are nothing without your firearms, if they want to rape your wife and daughter you can do nothing, tax you 90% and take your food, what are you going to do wave your machete at them and get guned down, americans who dont fight for the 2nd A dont deserve to be called an american, traitor is the word here.

Guys please calm down. i dont want this thread locked up. we know there are gonna be folks that just wont join. but for the folks that want to/will i want that link up there.

thanks, nemo

Thanks for the information on those other two groups ckzoom. We only ever hear for the NRA here in New Zealand it is good to know that other groups exist.

What ever you guys do to promote safe responsible citizens being able to enjoy our sport and hobby helps here too, as slowly our rights (in the case of NZ our privalliges) are slowly being erroded by people who mean well but are really scared of "violent gun crime" point to other countrys who have been disarmed as the way forward but have "violent bashing crimes" (UK) in the 10s of thousands.

nemo, it would be a good idea to ask Admin if they could sticky just your first post then lock it and leave this one open and civil to talk about it?

I bet Canada-Australia and England wish they would have had a organization like the NRA. Our forefathers were smart enough to put the constitution on paper-now its up to us to keep it on there. I hope everyone on this forum knows we wouldn't have gun rights today if it wasn't for the NRA. They are the most feared voice in Washington- Politicians hate to go against the NRA because they know they are in for a fight. I always thought somebody that runs for office had a obligation to stand up for your rights-not try to take them away! I hope alot of you that aren't members reconsider. Alot of you try to make excuses but the bottom line is: if you want to keep your gun rights then join today(you even get a choice of magazines each month) I know it can't be the money- we spend hundreds-if not thousands on guns-what the hell is twenty five dollars! Power is in numbers-Don't let 4 million do the work for over 100 million gun owners! JOIN NOW! NRA LIFE-JOHNOHIO

Well said Thomasm and Vincent- I hope alot of you read these gentlemans post! Also I noticed one fellow didn't like Wayne LaPierre. I had the chance to meet him a couple of times and I can assure you he is a good man for the NRA- he is on top of things and knows how to debate the anti-gunners. I'm glad he's on our side. But then again we have alot of good people in our organization. I'm really impressed with our women members. Everybody coming together as one to fight for our freedoms and put the criminals in jail and preserve our rights for the law abiding citizens is what the NRA is all about. Its time for you to join today and fight with us. Tomorrow maybe to late! NRA LIFE-John Ohio!

I am presently a member for the last 10 years but when they make me mad enough I get out for a while. Remember "the jack-booted government thugs" era. They lost a lot of members during that period including the first president Bush. As to what the NRA has done for us lately, chalk up the Heller vs. DC decision to them. I read some years ago how many constitutional scholars that they had working on the decision. Then they waited for years to get the right mix on the SC and finially they had to find the right defendent to bring the case. They did a brilliant job. Join up and be a soldier in the fight because the anti's aren't going away.
